Diamond has a whole page of "Service Informations" that lists outside service bulletins, etc. It seems extremely odd they do not include this one on the list. http://support.diamond-air.at/da40-180_ ... 73ab0.html

I'm working with my A&P. His shop has two DA-40s he's doing annuals on.

My dipstick is on back order. It will take a couple of weeks.

Diamond has updated the Service Information list to include this problem. Its SI 40-157. ALL DA40s are affected.

Just swapped mine at AirPart at Wycombe Booker in the UK (cost GBP 137; due to get refund in a few weeks). New dipstick showing 1/2 quart more (was 6 quarts on old dipstick; now 6.5)

Re: DA40-180 Oil Dipstick: Lycoming MSB 612
I called Air Power in TX back on Jan 4, and they sent me a form to fill out. They ordered the new dip stick from Lycoming to be shipped directly to me, but said they were out of stock at the time. They asked me to ship the old one back to them when I get the new one, but didn't ask for any money. So now I'm waiting for a long skinny package from Lycoming...

Hi Thomas -ThomasD wrote:New dipstick showing 1/2 quart more (was 6 quarts on old dipstick; now 6.5)
Per Rich's comparison photo on the first page of this thread, that is expected at ~6 quarts. The problem is that when the old stick reads 4 quarts, the engine actually only has ~3 quarts.
Many thanks to Rich for bringing this to everyone's attention! Mine was installed yesterday, and my mechanic proactively ordered new sticks for every DA40 in his care.

Re: DA40-180 Oil Dipstick: Lycoming MSB 612
Just received my new stick from AirPower. My engine "settles in" at about 6 quarts for extended periods on the old stick, so that appears to be about 6.5 quarts now. Any more than that it just blows out the overflow vent for me to clean off the belly!

I got my dipstick. It is significantly different. I wonder how they decided on the old dipstick?

Re: DA40-180 Oil Dipstick: Lycoming MSB 612
I just got mine, too. I had 5-3/4 quarts in it according to the old stick, and the new one reads just over 6. But the low end, as already noted, is MUCH different - 4 quarts on the new stick is where 5 quarts would have been on the old one!
Next oil change, I plan to add 4 quarts, wait a while, check the level, add another quart, etc. and see how it lines up with the markings on the new stick as I fill it up. I know that won't account for the filter, but I'd still like to see how it correlates...
