Has anyone done this? (I just saw a plane at KLGB today that had it done. It looked STUNNING.)

Re: New Brakes, Tubeless Tires
I have learned some things. I'll collect them here, just in case.
These are the brakes that are now being used on the DA62.
The STC only covers planes up to 1,900lbs, so the DA42-VI is not covered. (Someone is going to correct me that it is kilograms, that's possible.)
The STC only covers the wheels (and other hardware) in RED. They can do the anodizing in all sorts of custom colors (I like a nice deep blue, myself), but those would only be for experimental planes. The DA42 has to be red.
That makes no sense. The factory was going to check because the STC is getting a revision (to add the DA42-VI, I imagine), and they's see if B's will add the other colors. Or make it color independent.
The kit is $7,000. The factory has installed four sets and they charge about $2,000 for their labor. My mechanic is itching to try it. The factory said, "The master cylinders have to be replaced and those are behind the instrument panel, so it's a lot of work." My mechanic said, "They are behind the pedals, not a big deal."
I will continue my research and report back, but I wish one of those pilots was in our group and would pipe up about whether it was worth it.

From the DA62 AMM:Colin wrote:These are the brakes that are now being used on the DA62.
"The DA 62 has two main wheels and a nose wheel. All wheels have split hubs and tires with inner tubes. The main wheels are standard Cleveland components.
The main wheels have brake disks and a Cleveland brake caliper."
The DA62 wheels have red trim, but apparently aren't made by Beringer.

Re: New Brakes, Tubeless Tires
I have bought a wheel from Beringer when I was redesigning (!) the nose gear of the DA40. I still have it...
Beringer products are even nicer than what the photo shows.
Machining and finish quality makes the Cleveland look like Flintstones wheels.
Benefits are:
Lighter wheels and lighter tyres - significant weight savings.
Better braking (they have a system called ALIR I think that acts like a simplified hydraulic anti-lock).
And of course the looks... architects really love them because they add this hi-tech touch to the building... ahem PLANE.
They use a different hydraulic fluid. You have to replace everything and it IS quite some work.
Cirrus have them as standard - meanwhile on the SR20 too - so the issue with repairing a tubeless tyre in the field will become less critical as Cirruses roam around the world.

Re: New Brakes, Tubeless Tires
That is very disappointing and cools my interest in buying a brand new DA62. (Okay, my plan was always to wait until Dave was selling his to get his DA82.) It also bothers me that my very knowledgable contact at the factory thinks the DA62 brakes and wheels are Beringer, but they aren't.The DA62 wheels have red trim, but apparently aren't made by Beringer.

Wait, you mean there's a "DA82" I should get instead of a DA62??!Colin wrote:That is very disappointing and cools my interest in buying a brand new DA62. (Okay, my plan was always to wait until Dave was selling his to get his DA82.)
(Currently awaiting FAA paperwork to take delivery of new DA62, hopefully next week.)

Re: New Brakes, Tubeless Tires
The DA82 will be the King Air killer. The DA62 is close and the DA82 will close the gap. Pressurization, barn doors with the low entry, club seating... I don't know yet if it will have a potty.

Re: New Brakes, Tubeless Tires
Hi Colin...this is Colin responding. You probably saw my bird down there at Angel City. I believe it is the first with the install. They roll far more smoothly and it's nice to be able to push on the pedals without worry of skidding the tires. Simply put...great so far (6mos). I'll let you know what I think after a bit. Apparently the maintenance is a bit more.

Re: New Brakes, Tubeless Tires
Colin,
That is *really* cool to hear. I am pretty sure I am going to order them. There's a three month lead time since I want blue, not red. AGF is becoming a dealer, so they have started ordering spare parts and said they are as reasonable as Cleveland Brakes.
