Zero Breeze air conditioner

Postby curts63 » Mon Jun 04, 2018 10:45 am

Has anyone heard of this thing and could it possibly be used to cool down the cabin on our planes? Can the heat generated by the condenser be exhausted back through the tail section?

This look great, I do have 3 questions, 1: how do you send the condensate overboard 2: the warm air needs an outlet and 3: price ?

It's 639USD on Indiegogo. Comes with one battery pack. For me it's too pricy..

So I'm interested in Evapolar. 199USD.
It's evaporative cooler so no need of exhaust pipe. Not sure if this is sufficient for our hot cabin.

I have an Icy Breeze. https://www.icybreeze.com

I built a "platform" that fits on the rear seats to keep it level.

The very best (and most expensive) that I have used was in a new DA40NG with A/C.

Of course, once I'm at cruise altitudes, it hardly matters.

Guys, take a look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezOV85PDZFc&index=18&list=PLqrHjAAn5f-1Lu0Wv9E_MmxPAtTijS689&t=0s.

I stumbled across it when I was researching the IceyBreeze out of frustration when the A/C broke in my DA40 (which has now been repaired). I actually my made a project out of it with my 5 year old son and together we replicated the design and had some fun.

I made a few changes to the design as follows. (1) I used 3 inch tubing all the way instead of 4 inch he did https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00KQPCE8A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. (2) I ordered a custom NiMh battery from BatterySpace https://www.batteryspace.com/custom-nimh-battery-pack-12v-10ah-stick-with-65c-thermostat-and-male-trailtech.aspx which I bolt to the top of the cooler. I went with NiMh as it is supposed to be safer than NiCad as it relates to exploding, etc. This battery gives me 3 hours non stop when paired with this fan https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00F7ANK7S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. (3) I used a smaller fan that consumes 2.5 AMPS verus the 6 AMP fan he used. I later got carried away and added a thermostat https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01GZWQEQA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and a motor speed cotroller so I could vary the fan speed https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00XJH2978/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. (4) Last but not least, because I planned to use it in the plane I moved the fan, intake and output to the top of the unit. Also I did not feel comfortable putting holes in the side of the cooler.

I also plan to add a voltage and amp meter but cant find one that I like as yet.

Here are some pictures

Sandy I just recently bought an icy breeze as well and was hoping you might share pictures of your set up. Also have you ever had issues with the drain plug leaking? I would feel more comfortable if it had a screw cap rather than just a plug.

@dwall, I may be going to my hangar later. If so, I'll take some pictures and post them with the dimensions.

I took the pictures that show the Icy Breeze along with the platform that I built so that it sits level. Unfortunately, the pictures are sized at 1.7 Meg, and that’s too large to upload here from my iPhone. I can email them to anyone who sends me their email address, or I can resize them from my desktop. Either way the platform is 12” x 12”, the side legs go from 3” to 6”, and it’s covered by leather using 3M spray contact cement.

I was able to resize the pictures to show the platform that I built so that it would stay reasonably level when placed on the back seat, or with the back seats folded down.
