2.0 engines past TBR
For those of you in DA42s running (or planning to run) their engines past TBR, what is the maintenance program you are following? Testing the oil? Looking at compression?

I'm pretty sure you have to follow schedule for other parts (like gearbox and high-pressure pumps).

Right. We would definitely keep doing that. I was curious if there was other things people were following, since the advice from Continental is fairly spare. ("Inspect and approve" or something like that.)

Re: 2.0 engines past TBR
I can’t say much because I don’t know
since this is not available option under EASA registration.

Colin, As with the 1.7 s you will need to get a hold harmless letter from Continental. I plan on running my 1.7 s well over the 1000 hour t.b.r. maybe 2 plus thousand hours, I will be doing oil checks etc. along with recommended parts replacements. I run my engines at 80% power in XC cruse and 60% while local. There is / was a fellow in D.C.doing traffic reports in 172 s with 3000 + hours on his engines, so there is hope for us.

No new ideas here but...
Compression is a PITA to do on those, and a lot of diesel dudes will tell you that it's pretty arbitrary. On the old 1.7 it would tell us if we had a crack but we could have three "failed" cylinders with no appreciable effect on the operation.
Oil analysis and trend monitoring for sure.

Latest (non mandatory for EASA) SB
http://www.tmg-service.de/doc-download/ ... fetime.pdf
The mandatory stuff (equally applicable to EASA/FAA planes) is in section 5 here http://www.tmg-service.de/doc-download/ ... pdf#page45
FADEC readout, engine oil analysis and oil filter inspection, anythi ng else?

Re: 2.0 engines past TBR
A recurring lab oil analysis will tell you far more than a filter visual. The former is more like “there’s trouble on the horizon” whereas the latter is more like “well that explains it”austropilot wrote: Fri Dec 18, 2020 11:58 pm FADEC readout, engine oil analysis and oil filter inspection, anythi ng else?

Re: 2.0 engines past TBR
On top of some of the items already mentioned, it'd be interesting to have a conversation with Savvy Analysis to see if they'll do any trend work.

Unless something has changed, running the 1.7L Thielert engines past 1000 hrs and getting parts is not possible. I was told that Continental will not do a Hold Harmless Letter nor are they making new parts for 1.7L engines.
