But that is not how many owners treat their aircraft in the general aviation world. Fortunately we have a way forward with the legacy G1000 being installed via STC. But those who have NXi today are locked into Diamond and Garmin's shenanigans going forward.

I've owned my DA40 for almost 10 years. Over the past two years I've put almost $200k back into the plane. But now I'm left with an abandoned avionics platform, no available and promised software update, and a full panel replacement panel as my only option. I'm not about to throw away the money invested in the plane over the past two years, and it's particularly frustrating to have been let down by Diamond. I am only beating this dead horse because I think that it's important for those who have helped fill DIamond's order book for the foreseeable future to understand how Diamond has historically treated their customers.
Your points are entirely accurate.

The DA42 type certificate is held in Austria and certified by EASA, which is why the DA42 has both the V15 update and I believe already had Phase III firmware.

The DA40 and DA62 type certificates are held by Diamond Canada. No avionics firmware has been certified by Diamond Canada with Transport Canada in over four years. Phase III has been 1-2 quarters in the future for over two years. True to form, another owner was told by Diamond just this week that Phase III would be certified in July, as in "1-2 quarters in the future".

If this issue is important to you, I suggest you PM Ed McDonald (member name is "Ed McDonald") and express your interest in working with him as an advocate for avionics issues for DA40 owners.

I sold my second DA-40-180 last year. My next airplane, due in November, has discrete avionics.

The G1000 was competitive when it came out in 2003-4, but today your smartphone and tablet at 1/90th of the cost has considerably more power, reliability, and capability than anything installed in your aircraft. The NXi was not competitive with the compute platforms available at the time. I imagine Garmin came out with it due to components going end-of-life and to reduce some costs.

As such, I would not be distracted by the inability to update to an NXi. You have much better and very inexpensive software services and updates on your apps (Foreflight, etc.) than anything you can get for a G1000 or G1000NXi. Not to be too snarky, moving from the G1000 to G1000NXi is like moving from Windows XP to Windows 7.

The airplanes fly well, safely, and efficiently. I would take solace from that.

Back in late 2020 Diamond Canada actually had a plan for delivering DA40 Legacy G1000 GDU Version 15 -- following their certification of DA40 NXi Phase III. Since years later NXi Phase III still hasn't been certified by Transport Canada for DA40s (Lycoming XLT or Austro NG), I'm guessing that DA40 Legacy G1000 GDU V15 has been postponed indefinitely. Any hope for development and testing of GDU V15 may also have been affected by the departure last year of Diamond Canada CEO Scott McFadzean.
So what is Diamond's ADS-B compliance path for Canadian G1000 aircraft? The GTX 345 can have either Diversity or Integrated GPS but not both. Without GDU V15 there is no GPS data available to the transponder. The uAvionics Diversity solution is tail mounted in my understanding.

Good point -- if Transport Canada actually gets around to requiring ADS-B with diversity antennas for reception by satellites, it's going to require Diamond and/or Garmin to provide a solution for Legacy G1000 DA40s. (Of course this would also create a huge "political" problem with the US, since 99% of US aircraft owners who might wish to fly in Canada don't have ADS-B with diversity antennas.)

Hi all,

I am flying a DA40NG with system software 0915.07 / PFD 11.12 installed. Is the v15 software or any other software upgrade already available for this model and is there a comparision/version history of the G1000 software versions and the new features/fixed bugs?

Thank you!

According to MSB 40NG-003 Rev. 15 (page 4 of 16) dated 08-March-2023, the latest GDU version for DA40NGs with WAAS-equipped Legacy G1000 panels is 11.13, which is associated with system software 915.07 (software part number 010-00915-07).

A complete manifest is listed in the MSB, available from the Diamond Aircraft Technical Publications website.

I was looking at past G1000 Phase III update announcements:

February 17, 2021
Software Release Dates:
DA42NG: April 2021
DA62: July 2021
DA40NG: September 2021
DA40 Lycoming November 2021

November 19, 2021
Software Release Dates:
DA62: 3/31/2022
DA40NG: 8/31/2022
DA40 XLT: 9/30/2022
DA42 NG: 9/30/2022
(The new DA50RG is already being delivered with NXi Phase III)"

Diamond apparently forgot to make any update announcements for 2023. Seems to me they are due to promise these updates again this year.

Thank you - I thought I probably missed something regarding the upgrade. if its already 2.5 years late, it probably will never be released?!

I don't think so, because they're taking new DA62 orders marketing the LVL button and the GWX8000 radar. They wouldn't do that if they had given up on the certification.
