The seat pad yes. Probably not lumbar area. You would have to bring the leather together using a backing piece.

I had worn spots and a 2 inch long cut but not tears like this.
Sold 2002. Powerflo, Hartzell composite two blade, 530W/430, 345 transponder.

For dying leather see this link. The non-aerospace stuff is exactly the same just different marketing

I would likely just do a repair and recolor. A good auto upholstery can easily do this and it won't cost you anything close to what the factory would charge for a replacement. They can provide the burn Certificate if you ask them.

So I got an $8k quote from our shop that does the annual to replace the leather and foam. Is this reasonable, or way too high?

I redid my seats a couple months ago, buying the aviation-grade materials and having a local auto upholsterer do the work. If anyone would like materials to refurbish your seats please let me know. I’ve got 2-3 yards of extra Izzit Leather breathable in Rootbeer (https://izitleather.com/izit-breathable-colors) - enough for a couple full seats or 4-6 lumbar panels and seat pans - plus soft and firm aerospace memory foam for 3-4 seat bottoms.Image

I saw this spectacular interior a couple of years ago on a DA40 at Premier KFXE as I was beginning my search. I believe it was a 2005 with a KAP140 although I was really looking for 2008 or newer with GFC700/WAAS. But this one was really tempting - I've never seen any interior, Diamond or otherwise, even close to it. I believe they said it cost the owner around $20K. I would love to know who did this work.

I believe the shop that did that work has been discussed on this site before and it was an absolute nightmare.

Thanks Colin. Do you remember the thread or name of the company?

I believe Colin is referring to a shop in the UK that has changed names a couple of times as the owner, Jason Cooper, got sued, shut down, and reopened under another name.

Here's a thread from somebody who had a positive experience. Unfortunately the pictures seem to have disappeared from there. :(

Here's another thread that discusses the nightmare Colin is probably referring to. You may notice that the member who posted the postive write-up above eventually had a falling out with the shop and piled on here as well.
