Re: Mandatory 10 year AmSafe bottle replacement
I was able to get this question answered
Here are the parts, there is a 6-week Leadtime at AMSAFE
EMA Controller 508358-421 ( replace every 12 years)
Inflator Tubes 509667-217 ( replace every 7 years)
The Webbing with airbags is a recommended replacement at 12 years
This is for the 2008 DA40 XLS saddle brown
DMF A1207 AMSAFE REPLACEMEMT SEAT BELTS DA40
ASSY 7053-1-012-18168 (LEFT SEAT BELT)
S/ASSY 7053-2020218168
DMF A0308 (new belt came with DMF A0122 on it)
ASSY 7053-1-011-8168 (RIGHT SEAT BELT)
S/ASSY 7053-2010118168
Hopefully this is helpful to a future reader

Re: Mandatory 10 year AmSafe bottle replacement
After reading all of this I am kind of glad my 2004 doesn't have these. When I was shopping I was looking at old Cirrus SR-20's and SR-22's and almost all of them were in need of a chute repack within 2 years at a cost of (I guess based on what I read) $10-$20K. In their case you can't placard the chute as inop as the plane was certified with it and is not airworthy without it.

Re: Mandatory 10 year AmSafe bottle replacement
Some of the parachute parts have been in limited supply lately, potentially grounding 100's of planes waiting for a repack. Cirrus managed to get a one year extension from the FAA on the repack limit to give them time to improve the supply chain backlog.
The AmSafe belts are also on the Cirrus type certificate so, like the parachute, when those time limits hit they can't just placard the airbags inop and fly. The plane is grounded until the Amsafe parts are overhauled or replaced. They are having problems getting EMA controllers and other Amsafe parts.
During an annual inspection a few years ago questions about my unexpired, fully functional AmSafe system cost me an unnecessary $2K and an extra week of AOG.
And they are uncomfortable.
On my new DA42 I specified NO AmSafe airbags!

Re: Mandatory 10 year AmSafe bottle replacement
Greetings! Just a heads up on the current airbag scene. I own a 2012 XLS that is turning 10 yrs. old and will go in for the annul later this week. I use SouthTec ( Glenn Lawler's shop in Salisbury , N.C ) I placed a $4000 deposit in mid September with SouthTec to cover the replacement bottles, etc as Glenn advised doing all the airbag stuff at the same time....well, here we are 1/31/22 and no word as to when I might see the parts. Ill find out soon enough what the end result will be...placard or worse. Will keep you posted

Re: Mandatory 10 year AmSafe bottle replacement
Just spoke with SouthTec and my airbags will be left in tact but placarded until parts are available...gather it could be a lengthy wait from here and the parts were ordered in September.

Re: Mandatory 10 year AmSafe bottle replacement
I have a DA40 in our shop for annual and the inflator bottles and modules are being replaced. Modules are on a major backorder, apparently Textron has 169 on backorder status. The bottles sounded as though they were in stock.

I had mine placarded last July, no updates since. I was told three months back then.

Re: Mandatory 10 year AmSafe bottle replacement
Hi Peter,
How did they placard it? Mine is a 2008 and Glenn had it disconnected and placarded AMSAFE Inop as I didn’t want to pay the $3K. Reading more Mike Busch books, and while 10 year is recommended, it doesn’t seem like it is mandatory for Part 91 operators. Anyone have an opinion on not servicing and leaving it operational? The biggest danger would be an accidental deployment. If that danger is minimal, seems like leaving it operational after the recommended 10 years could prove beneficial if deployed in case of an accident.
