Any updates on this? Are the DA-62s on schedule to receive the Phase III upgrade on 3/31/2022?

No updates from Diamond. Still waiting patiently for them to schedule our next meeting.

My plane is in for its annual right now… since it’s April, I had them inquire about the Phase III upgrade. The response was:

To Russ, Paul, and others patient enough to interact with Diamond on behalf of DAN...many many (many) thanks! (I feel your pain...despite having only had to deal with them for a short time as a new owner with a temperamental DA40NG...my first and last Diamond).

Trying to find the right DA40 NG to buy for myself now... How do I determine if the hardware that is present in the plane I buy (looking at a 2021 right now) has what is necessary for this Phase iii upgrade? What is the typical charge? And especially if I want to add the levelling button?

Any DA40NG with NXi Phase II hardware will be able to run Phase III software without any hardware upgrades. Just look for the newer GMA 1360 audio panel with Bluetooth for evidence of Phase II.

The only feature missing will be the blue Level button -- which can optionally be added to the instrument panel after Phase III software becomes available.

There is no charge from Diamond/Garmin for the software. Your avionics shop will charge you an hour or two of labor to install the update. Installing the Level button would probably be a couple more hours and a switch.

Exactly. Call it regulatory scent marking. It is very similar to the ADS-B diversity issue. If they don’t do something different, they have a existential crisis. So they try to come up with a new angle, and spend lots of time doing it.
