Da62 Changes by year

Post by Zebedee »

I have looked extensively online before asking here.

Does anyone have a list of changes/updates made each year to the DA62 since its release.

Also interested in a list of issues that may be present on the earlier models that have been sorted in later years.

Many thanks in advance,

Unfortunately the path is not always to correct the past. I'm also curious about new issues that have been introduced in later years.

There are three blocks of updates. Airframe, Engine and Avionics. Avionics is well covered already.

You can check the IPC for changes by serial number. Nothing major, just airframe bugs improved over time:

and for the Engines:

In summary - it's a slightly more refined (bug fixed) product with newer avionics over time, that's all.

There have been relatively few changes made to the DA62 other than to G1000 avionics since its introduction in 2016. Here are the only changes that (IMHO) are significant:

May 2017: Legacy G1000 --> G1000 NXi Phase I. This included PFD/MFD screens and GTX335R ADS-B Out transponder to replace GTX33ES with ADS-B Out. NXi also included the introduction of fuel gauges for the Aux fuel tanks in the engine nacelles, and heated static ports.

Early 2020: Certification of GTX345R (to replace GTX335R) to allow ADS-B In weather and traffic. NXi Phase I hardware remained, but new Phase I software enabled the FlightStream 510 SDcard for wireless communications with Foreflight or Garmin Pilot on an iPad/iPhone.

Mid-2020: G1000 NXi Phase I --> G1000 NXi Phase II. This included GIA63Ws --> GIA64Ws, GEA71-->GEA71B, and GMA1347-->GMA1360 new audio panel with Bluetooth and 3D audio.

Software updates to Austro engines resulted in no noticeable changes. Somewhere along the line white fireproof paint on the inside of engine cowlings was replaced with (black) fire-resistant cowlings.

If you purchase a used 2016 Legacy G1000 DA62, it can be upgraded to NXi Phase I for about $100K.
GTX345R for ADS-B In weather and traffic can be installed for about $12K.
Phase I NXi DA62s can be upgraded to Phase II hardware/software for about $25K after receiving about $12K credit for used pair of GIA63Ws.

Upcoming new DA62 changes include Beringer brakes, tubeless wheels and tires to replace Cleveland brakes and tubed wheels/tires; NXi Phase III software with a panel-mounted blue "Level" button and GWX 75 or GWX 8000 weather radar to replace the GWX 70 radar in the nose.

Thank you for another very concise response. Would love to buy a DA62, if I can find one.

I have flown that airplane, N66AR. My dealer used it as a demonstrator six months ago before I placed my order. Nice airplane. What’s interesting to me is the asking price of $1.7 mm given that the price when new was something like $1.3 mm… Makes me wonder what you could get for a brand new DA62 on delivery if you chose to resell it in the market essentially brand new. This market is pretty crazy. Of course, you’d have to wait a long time for a new one…

Might be a little less. I just got my Feb 2017 Legacy G1000 upgraded straight to NXi Phase II, with the GTX345R and Flight Stream 510, aux tank fuel probes installed, as well as an annual with engine service and all 400 hr and 5 year items (oxygen tank/regulator inspection, etc.) completed for about $76K at the London Factory.

That's lower than I would have expected. Did you get a credit for the GIA63Ws you "liberated" to be used for a Legacy WAAS upgrade to a plane that still has GIA63s?

Yes I did. $76K was the net price for the upgrade plus all of the other work. LRUs returned and credit applied were:

GIA63W x2
GEA71
GMA1347
GRS77
GDC74
GTX33ES

Hard to break out the upgrade cost from the total job, but probably close to the $58,000 price quoted in the Sep 9, 2020 Diamond letter to owners and operators:
