Aileron control circuit friction?

Post by soarer20 »

What would be considered normal friction/ static control force for the ailerons in a Da-20?

Over the winter my airplane sat in the hanger for 2 months and seems to have developed resistance in the aileron control circuit.

What’s normal stick force static? Lbs force?

Is it normal for the control surfaces for an A-1 or C-1 being stiff on the ground?

I don’t want to start disassembling things if this is just due to a sticky roller. However I’m not comfortable flying the airplane with stiff controls. Another DA-20 A1 that lives near me has very light aileron control forces. Easy to move on the ground.

They should be light and easy to move.

I had a da20 for 10yrs and they were always light with a steady movement. Friction or stickiness doesn’t seem right.

The maintenance manual points to control friction caused by a stuck bearing somewhere.

I’m a bit concerned that this could turn into a expensive repair.

I would say that you probably have a bolt that is rusted/seized into a bearing. Particularly where the flight controls bolt onto the wing. Having someone replace the bolts maybe all that is needed.
