DA42 Down in Schuylkill County, PA yesterday

Looks like a 2009 DA42 - N988JA - on a training flight with an instructor, student and passenger on board, made an emergency landing in a plowed field yesterday. Thankfully, everyone walked away - despite the plane ending up inverted in the field. Not enough information to even speculate on a cause yet.

It's pretty strange how they ended up inverted...

They might have had better luck with the gear up.

They trailered it to 22N, about a mile from the accident. They were lucky.

FAA says it was a DA42 Lycoming - twin IO360's. I thought those were pretty rare.

That's true. Many (most?) are former Embry-Riddle University (ERU) flight training DA42s that originally came with Thielert engines. In 2008-2009 after Thielert went bankrupt (and before the Austro AE300 was certified), ERU converted their planes to Lycoming IO-360s to keep them flying. 6 levers to manage, 20 gph fuel consumption, a good climb rate, but not as fast in cruise as DA42s with turbocharged diesels that do better up high.

Incredible they all walked away from this.

Curious to find out more about how they exited the plane inverted.

Looks like they axed the windows. The rear door is still attached so it wasnt from pulling the emergency escape latch.
