ICAO Equipment, Surveillance, PBN for G1000 NXI

Post by ingramleedy »

I think this topic has been addressed before but with G1000 without WAAS. Is there a reference document that is specific to Diamond (more specifically the DA40 NG with the G1000 NXI)? Is there any good guidance on this.

Here is what I think it is:

For Foreflight I am using:

ICAO equipment: B,D,G,I,R,S
ICAO surveillance: C, U2
ICAO PBN: A1, B2, C2, D2, L1, O2, S2, T1 -- I did this in a supplemental from Diamond http://support.diamond-air.at/fileadmin ... A02-r1.pdf

Thanks!

Great -- So I understand this:

Starting with ICAO EQUIPMENT: B,D,G,R,S - I added D since I don't think VOR assumes DME.

(from: https://bruceair.wordpress.com/2013/11/ ... h-ifr-gps/)

S: Standard communication and navigation receivers/transmitters (VOR, VHF communications radios, and ILS receiver). If you enter S in this box, you shouldn’t include the letters L (ILS), O (VOR), or V (VHF) here. S includes that equipment.
B: LPV approach capability. If you have a WAAS GPS, but your installation isn’t approved for LPV procedures (see the user’s guide and AFM supplement), omit this letter.
D: DME. If you don’t have DME, omit the D.
G: IFR-approved GPS (the preferred term is now GNSS, Global Navigation Satellite System)
R: PBN approved. This letter means that your aircraft meets basic RNP standards. All aircraft with an IFR-approved GPS are PBN approved (see AIM 1-2-

For ICAO SURVEILLANCE:

Based on the above, this would be E,B2

ICAO Surveillance: “E” (Mode S, ID, Altitude, Extended Squitter), “B2” (ADS-B 1090 MHz Extended Squitter, in and out)
(see a good article https://bruceair.wordpress.com/2013/11/ ... h-ifr-gps/ )

Is there a reference document from Diamond or Garmin that would accurately define this?

For: ICAO PBN

I am recommending ICAO PBN: A1, B2, C2, D2, L1, O2, S2, T1 based on the
http://support.diamond-air.at/fileadmin ... A02-r1.pdf

Here is the summary:

A1=RNAV 10
B2=B-RNAV/RNAV5 (operations in Europe)
C2=RNAV 2
D2=RNAV 1
L1=RNP 4
O2=RNP 1
S1=RNP APCHLNAV
S2=TNP APCHLNAV/VNAV (Foreflight only allows S2 or S1)
LP=LP (Not an option in foreflight)
LPV=LPV (Not an option in foreflight)
T1=RNP AR APCH

For ICAO SURVEILLANCE:

So pulling up the Garmin GTX manual, looks like E,B2 might be best ( I wished the Garmin manual specified the ICAO codes)

https://static.garmin.com/pumac/190-00734-15_05.pdf

The GTX 33X performs the following functions:
• Transmission of ADS-B out data on 1090 extended squitter (1090 MHz)
o Integration of data from internal and external sources to transmit the
following data per 14 CFR 91.227:
▪ GPS Position, Altitude, and Position Integrity
▪ Ground Track and/or Heading, Ground Speed, and Velocity Integrity
▪ Air Ground Status
▪ Flight ID, Call Sign, ICAO Registration Number
▪ Capability and Status Information
▪ Transponder Squawk Codes between 0000-7777.
▪ Emergency Status
▪ IDENT - initiates SPI (special position identification) pulse for 18
seconds
o Pressure Altitude Broadcast Inhibit
• Reception of TIS-A traffic data from a ground station
• Provides TIS-A traffic alerting to the pilot via interfaced display and audio
output

Garmin used to publish a spreadsheet with the recommended ICAO codes for different Garmin hardware, but I can't find it on their website anymore. However, Sportys still has a copy of it here: https://dl.videos.sportys.com/assets/IP ... _Plan.xlsx

Rick, that spreadsheet is gold. Ok, so based on that information,

I think this would be my codes for a DA40 NG (G1000 NXI SBAS, GTX 345R ADS-B “In”/”Out” Mode S Transponder)

FAA Equipment: /G (I don't think it has RSVM support in the LRU. The GDC 74A is designed to operate in Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum
(RVSM) airspace. So no /L see https://static.garmin.com/pumac/190-02177-00_A.pdf)

ICAO Equipment: B,D,G,R,S (based on https://bruceair.wordpress.com/2013/11/ ... h-ifr-gps/)
ICAO Surveillance: B2,E (checks out on spreadsheet - https://dl.videos.sportys.com/assets/IP ... _Plan.xlsx)
ICAO PBN: A1,B2,C2,D2,L1,O2,S2 (checks out on spreadsheet - https://dl.videos.sportys.com/assets/IP ... _Plan.xlsx)

There needs to be a class or really good YouTube video on this subject.. Wow -- What a rabbit hole.. Now I am sure that in practice most of this information isn't used by ATC.

Are you sure you don't have WAAS? I'm pretty certain all NXi systems have either a GIA63W or GIA64, both with WAAS. And if you didn't have WAAS, then you would have SBAS.

Yes I am including WAAS in my codes.... My initial post was referring to previous topics on this subject WITHOUT WAAS.
