Brake line clips

Post by briankelly327 »

Does anyone know the part number or after market part for the clip that holds the brake line onto the main landing gear? And is it easy to fix myself or should I have the shop fix?

Mine must have broken sometime during / after the annual bc the brake line is no longer firmly clipped to the gear.

Thanks,

Last year these were $30/clip from Diamond. Ultrapilot1 3d printed up a set for me for much less. Reach out to him and see if he can send you a set.

It's easy to fix yourself, and I can lend you the adhesive I used to install them.

One other option to consider. My plane uses zip ties to connect the brake lines to the main landing gear. It came that way from the previous owner and hasn’t been a problem. I just went through an annual at a Diamond service center including some brake work and they didn’t say anything. I didn’t know that’s what they were until I read this post and double checked. I might upgrade to the real clips but the zip ties are white and from a few feet away you can’t tell.

When I told my local mechanic what I needed, he also said he’d rather use zip ties, which work better and last longer. I’ll be going that route…

My clips were all new as a result of the MTOW/MLW mod a few years ago. The tines of these new ones partially broke off fairly quickly. But the bases are still attached and they still do the job of retaining the brake lines, so I figure there's no real urgency.

I've thought about using glider tape and the zip tie approach sounds like an interesting route. For the latter, keep in mind that the LG legs are tapered, so one needs to keep them from slipping down/loosening. Using the remnants of the clips comes to mind, installing such zip ties right above each broken clip

Glider tape sounds pretty cool. You could eliminate some drag. I mean, a crazy small amount, but that's what I picture glider tape being about.
