Closing on a DA42 on 19 SEP!
Flight school that I was training at went under and had the opportunity to purchase one of their DA42-NGs. Already have 5+ hours in the aircraft and should be able to knock out the MEI checkride shortly after knocking the rust off. Really looking forward the efficiency and little extra speed that it will provide me as I wait for the DA62 currently on order. This will be for sale in about 2 years!

Well, it's well-maintained, so that's a plus and something you don't need to worry about. (If that's where the plane has been maintained while you were training in it, it is probably one of the few occasions where I would let the current mechanic do the pre-buy inspection.)

Congrats - nice looking airplane.
I just started my search for a DA42 (currently own an XLS).
We are surrounded by water here in Michigan and would like the extra cruise speed and FIKI.
Are there any considerations regarding engines or things I should watch for ?

It was well maintained by the school and backed up by Premier in FTW (Diamond Service Center). I actually did have them do the pre-buy and they found a couple of minor things but then also did some preventative (early) maintenance on it as well. It's a 2007 airframe but remanufactured in 2021 with the new engines, FIKI, and a new interior. It's definitely a good opportunity given the current market!Colin wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 5:38 pm Well, it's well-maintained, so that's a plus and something you don't need to worry about. Congrats Bryan! You aren't too far from me. I used to fly to Ellington when I was doing some consulting for NASA. Talk about a fantasy come true for a child of the 60's who used to feign illness so that I could stay home and watch the space launches. Getting to fly my own airplane to Houston and park next to the NASA T38s, working with the engineers and astronauts, and having my employer pay for my fuel - I was in heaven!

Which autopilot, NXi avionics or legacy G1000, built up to -VI specification or just NG?bdbogle wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 10:38 pmIt was well maintained by the school and backed up by Premier in FTW (Diamond Service Center). Re: Closing on a DA42 on 19 SEP!
It's got the GFC700 autopilot with the Legacy G1000 in it. I'm totally okay with that as it's the same setup I have in my current T206. So just a NG with a GTX345ememic99 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 7:24 pmWhich autopilot, NXi avionics or legacy G1000, built up to -VI specification or just NG?bdbogle wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 10:38 pmIt was well maintained by the school and backed up by Premier in FTW (Diamond Service Center). That sounds identical to my N449TS. Congrats on your acquisition! It's a fantastic flying machine, and I'm sure you'll love it.
To the best of my knowledge, there's no way to convert an older DA42 airframe to full -VI specs. I asked the factory about it back before I purchased my NG and they said they couldn't do it. I think the main impediment is the additional reinforcement required for the final increase in max landing weight, but I suspect some of the aerodynamic improvements are difficult to retrofit as well.
I'm hoping to upgrade to NXi phase 2 now that Dick has managed to get his upgraded.

I have somewhere in emails exchanged with DAI:Chris wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 1:53 am To the best of my knowledge, there's no way to convert an older DA42 airframe to full -VI specs. 1. NG can't be converted to -VI.
2. TDI can be converted to -VI but MTOW will be 1900 kg (or so) instead of 1999 kg.
