Re: Engine failure on Astro DA42-VI
Having in mind previous cases of AE failures and DAI's time-to-release analysis, it will be a long wait before we hear anything about the cause of this failure.

So are you saying it only did that when you put the master OFF and not autofeathered immediately by itself when the problem occurred?

Glad everything turned out OK (minus the expense!). Is Austro rushing you a new engine given the circumstances? I heard engines have a 1 year lead time for normal orders.

Re: Engine failure on Astro DA42-VI
I met so many people that kept saying that propeller Autofeathers... I think even emailed Diamond and some point and they said that, but PoH clearly read to me as if master off is a must for feathering.Vlada-T wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 5:06 pmYes it is correct.alexair101 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 29, 2022 9:48 amSo are you saying it only did that when you put the master OFF and not autofeathered immediately by itself when the problem occurred?

Re: Engine failure on Astro DA42-VI
It autofeathers if it loses gearbox oil pressure, as would happen with an engine failure. Turning the engine master off simulates a failure.alexair101 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 10:11 pmI met so many people that kept saying that propeller Autofeathers... Re: Engine failure on Astro DA42-VI
"The first piston melted in the first cylinder of the engine, initial findings."
"Having in mind previous cases of AE failures and DAI's time-to-release analysis, it will be a long wait before we hear anything about the cause of this failure."
Maybe not so long, was this engine included in the list of affected engines in the recent proposed MSB about bad pistons?
