Re: New MSB about to be issued
Hi Jeff -- I have a DA40NG on order hopefully by May 2023 with you at Premier (FL). Do you know if these deliveries will have updated/checked core?

Full reports are available. Spectro is sending the AL snapshot straight away to get you the quickest possible resolution, but the rest should follow within a day or so.

Re: New MSB about to be issued
David Seastead with Premier Ft Worth shared the full oil analysis on my Group 4 engines. At 97.1 hrs since new, they both came in clean; the only effect this will have on me going forward is that there is no slop in the 100-hour oil change requirement for engines affected by the MSB: my next oil change and sample analysis is due not later than 197.1 hrs. Once the corrective work is accomplished (new pistons, in my case, once they become available) everything reverts to the AFM schedule and my engines go back to 1800 hrs TBR.

Re: New MSB about to be issued
My first annual inspection with 300 hours on both engines produced an aluminum count of 3 ppm on each, well below the critical value of 8 ppm.

Not much helpful for people here. Unlike us, they don’t have to worry about the budget.Ed McDonald wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 2:01 am And Diamond isn’t the only outfit with aircraft troubles ( https://youtu.be/9UdjEb2pPlU).

Every aircraft manufacturer sends out SB's. Boeing sends out brand new aircraft with open SB's.
SB's and AD's are just part and parcel of operating an aircraft, they are there primarily to improve safety.

Re: New MSB about to be issued
Nobody doubts that. The only (potential) issue here is manufacturer’s handling of this MSB/AD and how much inconvenience and financial burden will be carried by owners. In addition, we can see different treatment of fleet and private owners which is not something that makes private owners happy.

Re: New MSB about to be issued
Diamond swore on an owners call that fleet operators would not get preferential treatment over private owners, or small flight schools that may only have 1 or 2 NGs, and thus have their ability to stay in business affected by long downtime.
Plus they are paying for all of the oil analysis, and the new engine cores, no matter how long from now it occurs. Other than probably having to fly a few hundred miles for the actual engine core replacement, I don't believe this should be "too" bad on us private owners. Plus the TBR is reset when that core is replaced.

Re: New MSB about to be issued
I agree that Diamond's plan in terms of what they pay for and provide seems robust. Ultimately, the main question (other than the oil analysis annoyance on a regular basis, and that you'll never know when the other aluminum shoe will drop), is how fast Diamond can get the replacement cores/engines out to customers. Over the past few years, replacement engines have taken a long time to procure; if memory serves, sometimes 10-12 months. That's a long time to be AOG ... so in the end, it will depend on how Diamond handles the manufacturing (or remanufacturing) of replacement engines - if they get started and keep an inventory on hand, it won't be a huge deal. If they don't get started doing that now, it could be a long wait when the time comes ... and I think that's what concerns some of us the most. Especially if you use your airplane for business purposes. But even if you don't (like me), that's a long time to have to rent a substitute and there's no coverage for that cost. Not that I'm expecting there to be, honestly. But we don't yet have visibility on how Diamond will handle that kind of scale up to be ready to replace 1000 engines ..
PS - I allegedly find out today whether my DA62 being built has affected engines, and if so, in what group... fingers crossed! Will report back.
