Actually, upgraded TDI->NG are sold these days for €600k as well as TDI with CD-155 engines. €450k for any DA42 at current market prices would be a bargain.

In 2004 a DA42 was approx. € 450.000,- including VAT. This was with Thielert of course. If you purchased it new, changed it to Austro and kept it tidy you could sell it now certainly for € 450.000,-. As far as I can see this is true for most general aviation aircraft. I think a new C182 was USD 20.000,- about 60 years ago. And now these sell for USD 100.000,-.
Ha right, numbers not corrected for inflation of course. Makes sense, thanks!

$20K for a C182 in 1960! Corrected for inflation that's about $200K, still a steal compared to today's prices for a new Skylane. I got into this hobby 60 years too late it seems. Then again, pretty happy with how safe today's aircraft are compared to back then 8-)

Fun with numbers: depends how you measure inflation. Average cost of a house in 1960 was $11,900. Today it’s $360,000. Using that inflation curve, the 1960 182 at $20k would be $605k today. The $1.4million da62 would have been $46k in 1960, seems like an excellent deal for this technological marvel.

On a comparison level, it also suggests that the Cessna line is a little overvalued today while the more advanced da62 is a little undervalued.
