Best Place for initial training

Post by Zebedee »

I did a search of the website before asking, and the few places that showed up are not in business anymore.

I spoke to Diamond in Ontario and they said they would send me a list, as did my seller. That was 3 weeks ago.

Diamond said the school next door on London was full and didn't have any DA62's or even current DA62 instructors.

Where do you recommend I get my initial DA62 training?

Over 25,000 hours turbine time, but only 25 in multiengine piston, 40 years ago.

Time frame would be before July.

Insurance said a minimum of 10 hours Dual and then 15 solo before carrying passengers.

Any help is much appreciated. I will post anything I get from Diamond.

Thanks in advance.

Have you considered the DAI factory training in Wr. Neustadt (Austria/Europe)?

I spoke with Angel City Flyers as well and will most likely use them for my multi training in a few months. Apart from them, there is Berichi in Ft. Lauderdale that I know of.

Not sure if you have a DA62 on order or not, but if you do, I'd be happy to talk about helping you with initial training and to meet insurance requirements. I have helped four new 62 owners and two new DA42 owners so far.

I see you are in Cleveland.

I have used Midwest Corporate Air in Bellefontaine and been very pleased with their multi-engine instruction in Diamonds.

Some really helpful advice, Thank you.

I spoke with Berichi, their plane is in Canada getting new engines. Out of commission for now with sliding delays.

Mike, a wonderful solution, thank you for the offer of help. Plane supposed to arrive 3rd quarter, just trying to get my ducks in a row.

I was not aware of Midwest Corporate Air, I will see what they offer.

Thanks

It sounds like you want transition training, not an ME rating. I did my ME rating at Angel City in a DA62, but I wouldn't recommend them for transition training.

You can get quality transition training at Hayward, CA from John Ewing. He's a CFI, DPE, and literally wrote the book on the DA62 (https://www.eastbaydpe.com). Check Apple Books, and probably also the Android/Google equivalent.

You can rent this DA62 in Hayward and hire John to provide instruction. https://flybigblue.com

There may well be other instructors and aircraft closer to your home.

Contact Ed McDonald at www.JetPro.ca

He is a member of this forum and owns a DA62. I did my transition training with him and it was great. He is located near Edmonton, Alberta so it is easy to get to and the airspace is not too busy there, perfect for training. Ed blocked out a few days in a row for me to get it done.

The DA62 is not like a turbine (I also fly a Piper M600 SETP) ... there isn't a formal "initial or recurrent training" program per se; just X hours of dual followed by Y hours of solo before taking passengers, depending on your insurance. Mine was 15 and 10 (yours is 10 and 15). Mike Meadows did my dual and he was great and highly recommended - and I'm pretty sure he can also come to you (I'm very willing to commit other people to things like that!). The good instructors in the area have developed their own ground program based on Diamond's training materials and various secondary sources. You have time to figure it out ... and your delivery date may move around also (mine sure did). So be flexible and talk to a few people and see whose style suits you best. I'd recommend doing it in your airplane if you can but it's not a necessary thing. Good luck and congrats on your delivery later this year!
