Battery for Katana 100

Post by Da20Marin »

I need a new battery. Remove the cowling, this is the battery that’s in the plane now. It has this battery when we bought it. Should I replace with the same?

YTX24HL-BS -12 Volt 21 AH, 350 CCA, Rechargeable Maintenance Free SLA AGM Motorcycle Battery https://a.co/d/e6XMDMl

Thanks !

Hi Alex,

I don't have the 100. But the correct battery for the 80hp Katana is "Yuasa YUAM2218C Y50N18L-A-CX Battery". The one you posted is not the official battery for sure. My guess is that the 100hp Katana uses the same battery. Check your AFM, it should be listed there.

Just a heads up, the Yuasa battery comes "dry". You need to fill it with battery acid (that you can buy from most auto supply stores). It's a pretty easy DIY job btw.

The YTX24HL-BS is approved for the DA20-C1: http://support.diamond-air.at/fileadmin ... -Rev-0.pdf. But I don't see it listed for any of the other DA20 models.

Hi Matt,

Interesting. My guess is the A1 model is probably overlooked by Diamond due to the small number of aircraft. The one listed in the pdf seems like a better and safer battery.

POWERSAFE DRY CELL BATTERY SBS J-16 FAA PMA

Many C1s and A1s are using this battery. My IA said you don’t even need a 337.

The Yuasa batteries seem fairly poor quality. I wouldn’t trust even a sealed one not to leak. I’m not sure why Diamond ever used this battery. The powersafe/ oddesey batteries are very good quality not too expensive.

Thanks for the info. I usually get at least 3 years out of each YUASA battery and they are cheap as well (sub-$100).
