At 9.5k our Lycoming DA40 was often doing 138kts on 9.8gph. Obviously more, but at the time it felt so much better than what friends were getting in their Cirrus and Cessna birds.

In econo cruise, i can do 8 gph at 5-7k pretty easily. The book numbers work!

When I was looking to buy my NG, I looked at some planes being brokered by Lifestyle that had about 600 hours on new engines. I.e., about 2,400 hours total. If I recall correctly, I was told the overall cost and engine cost were comparable- about $35,000.

The difference I think is you can just replace a cylinder in a IO360. I don’t think you can do that in an Astro? It seems like an all or nothing affair.
