200 hour price/AOG time

Post by gcampbe2 »

I've got a maintenance provider that I'm reasonably pleased with, and my DA40NG is coming up on its 200 hour. My current provider has estimated $9100 (CAD) and AOG for 4 days. I'm curious for other folks having similar maintenance done in Canada if this is comparable? I have no reason to think it's not, but figured I should do some due diligence as a new aircraft owner (since apparently I'm getting hosed on my insurance currently).

I've also reached out to the factory in London to get pricing and AOG times for having them do the maintenance directly, and will update this thread once I have that information.

For me, in France I do a 200h check every year.
4 days AOG seems ok, but 9100$ is very expensive I think.

Maxi 1500€ oil and filter included here.

Thanks Arnaud. That seems a lot cheaper than $9100 CAD (which is €6200).

$9100 CAD for a 200 hour inspection alone is too much. Even with squawks that's on the high end. The proposed number of man hours from Diamond for a DA40 200 hour is 23. See the chart here: viewtopic.php?p=73683#p73683.

4 days AOG is feasible IF and only if there are no additional squawks that come up. To set expectations I've never had an annual turn around in less than two weeks. The average is about a month.

Thanks Matt. This is just for the 200 hour (no annual), so it sounds like the AOG time of four days is good, but the price may indeed be high.

That's been my experience over 9 years of ownership after visiting four different shops on the east cost. I now go to SouthTec which has the quickest turnaround but it still came in around a month.

Most issues have been due to shops taking too much work.

2019 DA40 NG. I haven’t had 200 hour’s service yet. But I just did annual, plus installation of two usb ports (one in lighter port and the other in center console behind trim wheel), plus repair of external power port plug for under $2,300.00 - including parts - so that seems expensive.

A quick update: I have spoken with the Diamond factory, and they come in a bit less expensive for the 200 hour, but not by that much. There is also a long lead time for maintenance (they are booking three to four months out). That said, I am going to perform my 200 hour/annual service at the Diamond factory in mid-June as they will perform the piston replacement at the same time.

Thanks to all those who commented. It seems like we pay through the nose here in Canada compared to you folks south of the border (keep in mind $1 USD is equivalent to about $1.35 CAD).

My 200 hour was $5147 and was done by James Spearman at the kgkt airport in 6 hours .. I flew in and he put 6 a&p on my plane … yes 6 people. He preordered everything and just got it done

The rest of my spending for the year was detailed in this viewtopic.php?t=8861
