AOG - Warped Intake Valve

Post by Charles K »

Well....

1500 flight hours on my 2004 DA40 Legacy.

I'm in annual and Cylinder 4 had lousy compression (upper 40's after many tries). They tried the in place valve lapping but it won't seal. Seems to be a warped intake valve (also noted it had lots of deposits. This Cylinder has always tested a bit lower than the others:

2018 66
2019 64
2020 64
2021 70
2022 71

Taking it off now and shipping out to a shop for repair (hope for about a 3 week turnaround or less). I ordered a new Lycoming Cylinder through AirPower just to have a spare - wait time about a year. No Superior Millenium available either. Supply chain really has done a number on many of us.

Looking for any thoughts on locating a used, serviceable cylinder (yellow tagged) or new or overhauled that I am not thinking of. Shop has had some planes grounded for up to a year when they needed a new engine.

Reach out to James Watson at Watson Aero. james at watsonaero.com. He did my overhaul and I'm not sure what he did with my four old cylinders but I don't have them. He may have others as well. Or at least a lead on where to get some. He was able to get Milleniums for me at the height of the supply chain issues.
