I have had various AOG instances, but on reflecting, none have been due to waiting on Diamond for something.
- Two were due to MT prop overhauls, one of which was initiated by actual problems with the prop.
- A few cases of elective upgrades which took awhile to complete. This is far from unique to Diamond aircraft. Ask anyone who's done an avionics upgrade.
- Persistent adverse weather patterns (like being frozen out of my hangar by ice dams ).
In contrast to some others here, whenever I've needed a part, whether from Diamond or not, It seems it has shipped next business day and sometimes the very same day I order it. Often it's not a AOG situation anyway, so I don't require overnight shipping or anything. The only downside is sometimes shipping from Canada is more expensive than domestic and every so often there's an import duty that pops up and may cause a delay.

Re: AOG Summary
It took about two months for Diamond to manufacture a replacement door for the one that departed our airplane. Perhaps reasonable -- not a part they keep in stock, save for the ones that are going on to new airplanes.
When the front canopy pin broke, they overnighted it to the shop where I was AOG.
The original estimate for a replacement NLG strut was 6-8 weeks, but with some creative thinking the shop was able to get another model NLG strut that Diamond did have in stock shipped out sooner.
There were some Diamond parts that were unavailable during my engine overhaul, but that was absorbed by the six month timeline of the overhaul.
Those are the major items I can remember. So my experience, similar to Rich, hasn't been _too_ bad.

Re: AOG Summary
The difference between the two of you and the AOG club is that both of y'all have Lycosaurus engines. You can order mags/an alternator/starter from Aircraft Spruce.
Those of us with Austro Engines have a single source for engine parts. And that source has a middleman in Canada, with backorders of 4-6 weeks being the norm.

True for engine-related stuff. But when I have had occasion to order Diamond-specific non-engine parts - maybe 6-ish times - I have had no significant delay in shipping. In the case of my nose strut (different part than Matt’s) it was same day, though hardly necessary.michael.g.miller wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 11:44 pm The difference between the two of you and the AOG club is that both of y'all have Lycosaurus engines. As to engine, my brain chose to overlook the “making metal” problem in 2015 which resulted 3 months to turn around a basically top-end overhaul. But of course Diamond had no role in that.

Re: AOG Summary
I was once AOG for three weeks to replace a failed (Dukes) fuel pump - 1 wk for diagnosis, another week to get the part, another week to get it installed. Now I know about the problem, I carry a (Weldon) spare, and I’ll go to a different shop. Don’t ask me about MT propeller problems. Now I keep a shipping crate in my garage.
