Noise Certificate for DA42

Post by mmelcher »

Howdy,

As I plan for international flying, several airports and handlers have specifically asked me to provide a Noise Certificate for my DA42. I've spoken with a few pilots about this and have received different answers. Hopefully, someone here can help me.

Is this something that needs to be specific for a given serial number? If so, who can produce this document for N-registered aircraft? @D-GCOB kindly shared a copy of his, which was aircraft specific and German registered.

Online, I found an EASA Type Certificate Data Sheet for the DA42. I'm not clear if this document qualifies.

Any guidance here would be greatly appreciated!

Maxwell, I found somewhere this "EASA Type-Certificate Data Sheet for Noise"... for a DA40.

I've carried this document (as a PDF on my phone) on dozens and dozens of trips to Mexico and beyond... and never been asked for it.

It’s not a generic document. It’s a document issued for particular aircraft and contains registration, serial number, engine(s) and propeller(s) types, MTOM, applicable standards, noise level etc.

Thank you for the responses @ememic99 and @waynemcc999.

@ememic99, it looks like your document was issued by a Sweedish government or aviation authority.

Curious, for my situation, has anyone with an N-registered aircraft crossed this bridge?

It should be in your flight manual - mine is. (DA62) - last page of Chapter 5 (Performance)

No, it can’t be part of AFM because it’s a document issued by national civil aviation authority. What you wrote is like claiming that registration certificate is in flight manual.

Thanks, I made progress this morning with AC 91-86. The AC states:
To comply with Part 91 and Annex 16, an operator may choose to carry the appropriate
pages of the AFM/RFM that contain the noise information required. In the alternative, an
operator may choose to create its own form on which to compile the noise information, or it may
choose to use the sample form provided in this AC as a compilation document for the noise
information.
Now, for a little more context (based on my understanding), in 14 CFR Part 36, FAA-approved AFMs are required to include specific noise certification data with a few exceptions. This is true of the DA42 AFM as well and this information is in 5.3.13 APPROVED NOISE DATA. This means we can fill out Appendix 2 of AC 91-86 if we need a form.

Anyway, I hope this information helps someone in the future. If you think I may have missed something, please let me know.

Each state (country) specifies its required noise compliance level.
The certificate confirming the noise compliance for the DA62 is page 5.3.13 Approved Noise Data.
You compare this data to the requirements of the state (country) you are flying in to check compliance.
