DA40 NG Market Today
28 NG's on controller now days. What a change from a year ago...seller's market flipped to buyer's market just like that. Of course the economy is partly to blame, but I certainly wouldn't be selling my NG if it were for Diamond's horrible customer service.
If anyone here is in the market for a well maintained NG, I can guarantee you won't find a better deal than mine -> https://www.controller.com/listing/for- ... e-aircraft
Don't look at the asking price. Make me a reasonable offer.

From the Controller advert:
2022 model year, Tach times: 1,600 hours on the airframe, 490 hours on the engine, 355 hours on the prop. Those differing hours will raise questions. Knowledgeable buyers will also want to know if the pistons are affected by the various ADs.

I'm seeing the same thing. My plane has had a bit of interest, but then we get ghosted. Myself, having lost $135K in market "adjustment" over the last 6 months, I can see where anyone would be hesitant to liquidate depressed assets to buy a discretionary item like a personal aircraft (aka "toy") right now. One buyer that seemed promising currently owns a 182, which he would presumably need to sell, in turn, to buy my plane.

That's also A LOT of hours for a 2022. Leaseback? Many partners?Soareyes wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 1:55 pm From the Controller advert:

Re: DA40 NG Market Today
Yes, my plane was on leaseback with a flight school, which explains the TTAF hours and the discrepancy for the prop hours - original prop leaked so had to send it in for rebuild.
My post is mainly about how drastic the market has changed.m in the past 6 months or so, with some whining about Diamond thrown in the mix to express my frustration about my plane basically being useless since the piston AD came out.
In the bright side, I replaced it with a brand new SR22T and couldn’t be happier with my new plane.

Is Diamond’s customer abuse strategy finally having consequences?
Of course Diamond doesn’t care about sales of used planes. It will take a couple more quarters of GAMA data to see if it has affected the order book.

Re: DA40 NG Market Today
There's a 2008 DA40 XLS at Steel being offered for over 400k. I'm rather shocked at that price, frankly. I find it hard to believe my plane (also a 2008 xls) has gone up in value THAT much. Super curious if it's getting any hits _at all_.
If I had the dough I'd be swapping for a G6. I love my plane but I've outgrown it, sadly, and the other diamond offerings don't mesh with my goals. The 62 could theoretically work but it's twice the price of a G6.I replaced it with a brand new SR22T and couldn’t be happier with my new plane

Re: DA40 NG Market Today
I've had my '08 Canadian XLS (980TT) listed on Controller since September, two nibbles from Michigan, one ended up buying from Lifestyle. And that's been it. Lifestyle has sold 3-4 XLT/XLS in the past two months and seem to be the only dealer with used movement but also getting pretty strong prices. No give aways that I can see. Interesting to note that Controller today has 1,844 single engine pistons for sale of which 461 are Cirrus variants, 25% of the total. Not sure if that is a telling statisic how the direction of the US economy is doing today? I had thought the Cirrus order book was quite stong at an 18-24 month wait for new builds. My big negative today is that no one in Canada seems to be able to tell what the Tariff is for an American buyer of a used, Canadian built aircraft, let alone any new build shipped from Canada. Strange times for sure.

Re: DA40 NG Market Today
I have a 2004 DA40-180 - first year of G1000. Not currently for sale.
Tangential comment but related to resale market of our planes.
What I am interested to see is that if MOSAIC in its current form goes into effect with primary light sport redefined based primarily on stall speed (<=54 kts clean) and allowing constant speed prop and retractable gear - the older DA40s like mine with 52 kts clean stall will qualify and I wonder if demand will rise based upon more people being able to fly it on the driver license medical standard for Sport Pilot in the US.
It will be an interesting change to demand for many older aircraft if it goes in as currently proposed.

Re: DA40 NG Market Today
MOSAIC is 54 K calibrated AS. The 52 knots specified for the DA40 is indicated. Calibrated is more like 60 knots. So this is an iffy situation for DA40's with the currently published specs. But there has gotten some pushback and the 54 KCAS might wind up getting modified upward in the final version.Charles K wrote: Mon Apr 28, 2025 10:43 pm ... the older DA40s like mine with 52 kts clean stall will qualify...
As far as market impact, it'll mean thousands of aircraft will wind up qualifying, not just DA40's
