Re: In flight cellular connectivity options
The ancient and slow satellite solutions are the only legal ways to use "cellular" today in aircraft. Count yourselves lucky that it is only $20K for an installation in a Diamond. For anything else the expense is far higher. I just added true cellular (e.g. broadband over LTE) into a fleet...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
@pietromarx There is an upgrade paths available for some G1000 planes: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/aviation/G1000-NXi-flight-deck-upgrade-for-select-cessna-piston-singles/ So far, neither Diamond nor Garmin has addressed this issue. My understanding is that Textron worked with Garmin to due the ST...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
I think MHoran's point is right on the money: the idea of having to remanufacture an airplane to obtain some slightly improved PCBs (printed circuit boards) is absurd. When originally offered by Diamond and Garmin, the idea was that the G1000 would be "future proof" with easy updates throu...

G1000 dead end (split from G1000 NXi Phase III)
I bought a DA-40 in 2003. The second with a G1000. What was true then is true today. Virtually the same words and conversations from the customers and ... silence from Diamond. This is perhaps why everyone I know says buy EAB versus certificated if possible and never, ever, anything with an integra...

Unleaded avgas
This piece is well worth the read: https://www.politico.com/news/2023/02/2 ... l-00081641
IMO, GA using engines burning leaded gasoline is unlikely to continue near any city of any developed country for much longer.

Re: G1000 Legacy & NXI Software Upgrades Announcement
I sold my second DA-40-180 last year. My next airplane, due in November, has discrete avionics. The G1000 was competitive when it came out in 2003-4, but today your smartphone and tablet at 1/90th of the cost has considerably more power, reliability, and capability than anything installed in your ai...

Re: See you all sometime later
My needs are the west coast and never in that much of a hurry. Hurry = grab an airline seat. I think in order of appeal it have at least two or more of the following: 1. Fun 2. No integrated flight deck 3. Electric I'm afraid the last is today rather unlikely. This said, I do love flying sailplanes ...

See you all sometime later
Hi All - My (second) DA-40-180 is in its new home with an excellent owner who has also had prior Diamond ownership. I hope everyone flies straight, high, and safely. I've enjoyed owning Diamonds now for two decades. They're almost everything one could want in an airplane. Be well everyone. See you a...
