Re: Partial engine fail in flight / boost pressure drop

The Austro software can be obtained from this site: http://austroengine.at/en/service/service-bulletins1 (requires you to be a registred user) Becoming an Austro wizard: 1. know how a diesel cycle turbocharged engine works 2. read the manual provided by austro for the actual software (also called Au...

Re: Cost of unscheduled repairs

Hi Peter, We currently operate a fleet of 6 NGs and growing, roughly 150H/month on each airframe. I can tell you that, except for the fuel tank contamination (we keep the aircraft topped up overnight and it never stays for more than a day in the tanks), we've seen it all. Our impression is that some...

Re: Fuel odour in cabin

Hi David, I recommend you read this thread: https://www.diamondaviators.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5783 In our case, it was the low-pressure hoses as described in the thread - the leak was extremely difficult to detect - I recommend you check the P/N as indicated. Furthermore, we have now est...

Re: Parts for regular Service

Hi Roberto, The national Spanish service center for Diamond (Rosique Aircraft) provides us with all the necessary parts quite quickly and at a discount (at least for us) and I know for a fact they do have business in Venezuela (don't know the extent of it). I recommend you get in contact with them (...

Re: Starter problems

The FAA version of the EASA form 1 is known as the 8130 (more precisely, FAA 8130-3). I don't particularly know the Thielert engine (we operate Austro engines) but I find it highly unlikely you can use an automotive part. The starter is probably connected to the gearbox on the Thielert, which does n...

Re: Leaking fuel hoses

Karl, Thanks for your reply. A DOA/POA will get EASA to approve/issue a TC, typically under the CS regulations - these are EASA requirements. The contents of an approved AMM are mandatory, unless the NAA agrees to otherwise, as they are classified as "maintenance data" in the continued air...

Re: Cooling system problems (Austro)

If it turns out to be a cylinder head, Austro has already confirmed they would assume the cost. However, and after some DIY testing (watching youtube videos on diagnosing blown head gaskets on cars), we are now reaching the conclusion that it may just be a bad thermostatic valve. I'll let you know h...

Re: Leaking fuel hoses

Karl,
Thanks for that. I was getting confused as people kept saying EASA. As per my knowledge, this is a Diamond only requirement. In fact, our DA42's equipped with the Austro engines don't have such requirements (items 73-79 don't exist in the maintenance manual).
Thanks!

Re: Leaking fuel hoses

Dave, Agree on the exhaust fumes while practicing stalls. We observe the same phenomenon (and it gets worse when using the air conditioning unit, as the inlet is underneath). Karl, I'm still unable to find any EASA AD relating to a change in the fuel hoses. Could you please point me in the right dir...

Cooling system problems (Austro)

We've been currently experiencing an uncommon problem on one of our aircraft (uncommon for us, we have accumulated roughly 10,000H over the past 3 years on these aircraft and this one is new): an engine seems to be pressurizing the cooling system when it runs! Let me explain this better: we believe ...
