Re: Rear Door departs a DA40 after takeoff
Looks to be about 50-isch serial numbers before 6LU. When I first got 6LU I also replaced the pistons that push the latch shut. They’re expensive, but they keep the latch fairly well secured. I instruct everyone to be fairly gentile with the rear door and not slam it shut. I’ve never had any safety-...

What's that on the leading edge?
What is the purpose of the triangle protrusion on the leading edge to the left of the lights? I thought it was to generate turbulence on the top of the ailerons as you approach stall, but then I noticed how close it is to the pitot tube.

Off-airport forced landing
Looks like the first Canadian-built NG (40.NC001) just had an off-airport forced landing around noon on Thursday 6/29 near Yorktown, NY. Flight appears to have departed Westchester County (KHPN). ATC communications recorded on VASAviation. okKyLExRwgs A crash, but the cabin appears in reasonable sha...

Re: Audio volumes dropping when transmitting
The volume is fine when the copilot is just speaking, it gets unusually quiet when the copilot PTT is active.
I played with the settings today, and noticed the copilot squelch was set unusually low. That seemed to make a bit of a difference.

Re: Audio volumes dropping when transmitting
Not sure what the etiquette is for re-awakening an 8-yr-old thread, but... G1000 (original, latest 'ancient' software) When the Copilot transmits to ATC the loudness the Pilot hears is not as loud as when the Copilot is just talking without hitting PTT. Is there a reason for that? Can one control th...

What do different GPSfix enumerations mean
In the G1000 logs, field 'GPSfix' has a number of possible enumerations. Does anyone know where they're documented? Or do you know what they mean? NoSoln = No Solution, I suppose. 3D = Appears to come on first during startup, and eventually switches to: 3DDiff = which seems to be the correct enumera...

Re: Go around button on xls throttle?
Just curious, what was the logic in having the Go-around button disconnect the autopilot on the models without ESP (Electronic Stability and Protection)? Would it have been too dangerous?

Vacuuming the DA40
Ok, here’s a funny question: Is vacuuming the aircraft interior of a DA40 an ok thing to do, with a cordless or corded vacuum-cleaner? I was told that Mooneys can get magnetized by having extension cords in contact with the metal wings. Our planes are mostly fiberglass so I would assume it’s ok, but...

Re: Spare G1000 Range Knob?
Thanks to the board, I got one of the range knobs delivered from Sarasota, before the hurricane came thru. Now, to the installation. The replacement part seems to have a metal ring inside, but the part that broke does not. Any ideas?

Re: Spare G1000 Range Knob?
I haven't tried it, but I wonder if the knobs from my PC simulator's RealSimGear G1000 suite are direct replacements for the Garmin knobs? If so, I bet RSG would sell you a knob for a lot less than Garmin. I met the RSG guys at FlightSimExpo a few years ago and asked about it. They said that during...
