Re: Annual frustration

I didn’t see Matt’s post on page 3. So what I wrote is a long winded duplication.

Re: Annual frustration

Just to add to the discussion on the Major Structural Inspection. It’s every 12 years no matter how many hours. I was hoping the phone call from the maintenance shop was for me to pick up my airplane from the annual. I knew the planes was finally back together and was planning on being done today. A...

Re: Loose blades found in annual

The prop has to come off the airplane. It’s then taken apart and some parts have to get replaced.the hub does come apart during this process. I think there are springs and whatnot that forces the blades outward into place. It’s my understanding standing that once the blades start to spin they lock i...

Re: Loose blades found in annual

I did have it dynamically balanced after the overhaul. I’ll have it down again just in case it helps. I keep asking myself is it something I'm doing. I do pull the plane out of the hanger but I mostly pull on the tow bar and not on the propeller. If I ever pull on the propeller it’s at the very base...

Re: Loose blades found in annual

The overhauled propeller made it to 230 hours. It had to be fixed again. This is the fourth time a blade came loose.

Here is the statement from the shop:

One propeller blade loose in hub. The limit is .125 total movement. Set up and measured blade movement to be .290.

Re: Storm Window Latch

I repaired my latches a few years ago. The repair was starting to fail so I ordered 2 new latches, the real ones. I had heard they were pricey so I made sure not to ask how much it was going to cost or look at the invoice when it was emailed to me. Sometimes I just don’t want to know. I wasn’t able ...

Re: Loose blades found in annual

Update from the prop shop. I’ll leave the prop on and keep an eye on the limits. >>>>>> I thought it a bit unusual that you guys have had such problems over the years with the preload loosening up, so I gave the factory a call to discuss this. Apparently, the Dimond aircraft have been a bit of a fro...

Re: Loose blades found in annual

Ugh, one of the blades is loose again. It lasted about 300 hours from a complete overhaul. The wobble is within limits. I’m inclined to not have it rebuilt a forth time and just accept that this is normal since it’s within limits. How are everyone’s scimitar propellers holding up? I can’t imagine wh...

Re: Slight surging, bad magneto

Normal ground check is at 2000. I lean just enough to get an EGT indication (flying out of DEN). Even with the bad capacitor drop was 90-100 and rise on all four EGT. It wasn’t until I ran it up to 2200-2300 did the issue appear. On the bad mag all four EGT fluctuated wildly while the engine backfir...

Slight surging, bad magneto

Posted in case this happens to someone else. I noticed the airspeed was less than usual for a given power setting. I was also feeling an intermittent acceleration/deceleration of airspeed. It was so subtle I wasn’t sure if I was imagining it. I had to run the engine richer than usual to get the smoo...
