Re: Power off 180
...if I don't want people to catch me slippin'. I have heard that lately the FAA seems to be viewing slipping on descent as a disfavored technique I don't understand where people have been hearing that forward slips have been discredited. It's a technique that's as old as GA flying: Since at least ...

Re: Power off 180
I have had instructors and a DPE suggest both methods. And I've done both. Instrument steep turns were once a task in the instrument PTS. They got rid of it years ago, but I know many CFIIs still teach them as an unusual attitude/emergency maneuver showing great control of the airplane. I took a fl...

Re: Power off 180
Stop looking at instruments and start looking outside and learn the sight pictures you need to get the performance you want. One good session with an instructor should take care of the steep turns. I think this is sort of controversial. In primary training it's all "eyes outside". Then fo...

Re: Power off 180
Hey Mark, seems like the steep turn to the left gives me more trouble. Using 2400rpm/ 18mp bumping to 20mp. Went back to slipping for the 180 like Dave suggested. Seems like I have better consistency with just the take off flaps. Thanks It’s typical to have more trouble with steep turns on one side...

Given how wind can affect the power off 180, you may need more practice but the best hint I have is th...

I have used it (in the AvGas version). Of course, it was 22 years ago.Mjwatlanta wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 3:26 am Congratulations! You are the only person in the U.S. who has used this gadget.

Re: Thoughts on a 2004/2005 DA-40
The G1000 upgrade issue is two fold. For the moment it means the avionics are a dead end. There are no software updates, and we are left wondering if there will be an upgrade path in the future. If I were in the market for a DA-40, this would be my top consideration in avoiding a Diamond G1000. As ...

Thank you! I was hoping that was the case - a maintenance level function.
