Re: DA40
Since the MD-80 hard landing was well documented, I suspect it was being flight tested. I wonder if it was the one a flight test engineer mentioned to me. He said that one of the tests was a power off landing, but the power was cut too early. He said he spent weeks in the hospital.

Re: New ROTAX 912iS
I just looked at the Pipistrel price list. They want €8000 more for the 912iS version (compared to the carb 100HP 912).

Re: Garmin 796
My solution was to get their knee board mount. It's similar to the 696 mount, but has an extra set of mounting holes for the 796. This meant getting rid of my standard knee board and going paperless, but that was one of the main reasons I got the 796. Of course I might need a paper backup, so I got ...

Re: Fuel measuring device for DA40 with long range. Tanks
I've thought that a sound based fuel gauge could be quite useful. Have you ever blown across the top of a partially empty bottle? The pitch gets deeper when there is more air in the bottle. This phenomenon could exploited for fuel quantity determination. Make a device that emits a sonic pulse and me...

What took so long? DA-20's have been flying for almost two decades now.

Re: New DA20 owner / pilot
Welcome to the forum and congratulations, Justin! Nice airplane! I enjoyed looking at your photos. My Katana was also rebuilt (two owners ago). It lost a wing in a landing accident at Concord, CA. The replacement wing came from a Katana that landed in a tree when the its unsecured canopy popped open...

Re: KOA (PHKO) - Kailua-Kona - Island Adventure Flying Cours
Great trip report, Chris! I've flown Cessna's around Oahu and Maui and had a great time. Going with instructors is quite useful. They handle the radios and the airplane when I want to take a picture. They also play the role of tour guides pointing out local features. I also circled Kauai in a Cessna...
