Re: The 1,000 Pound 1,000 Mile Challenge

How many planes are sold, and those companies are barely making money?
There just is not enough volume/market.

Re: The 1,000 Pound 1,000 Mile Challenge

Aerostar can do it. I had a 700 with the gross weight increase. For only a 1000nm in go fast mode (260KTAS) you will burn roughly 190 gallons, leaving 45 which is a one hour reserve. About four hours flight time. And roughly 1200lbs useful available. If you want economy mode (210 KTAS), your are loo...

Re: The G1000 project - "The next step"

I believe they focus now on the huge trainer market. The private GA owner is no business case anymore for diamond. Well, then this begs a question for me: what are my options for the first airplane? Except Cessna 172. I'd like 4 passengers , but can live with 2, 500-600nm range and low (comparative...

Owner produced parts. The FAA has you covered.
And then owner assumes potential liability if the aircraft is an accident. I know of no case where this has been filed or proven, but I would not want the risk.

Re: Filing Direct

For those complaining about controllers, today Seattle Center and Salt Lake Center were accommodating plenty of requests for diversions. Between smoke and t-storms lots of folks were getting amended clearances, inflight direct routings and such. the only one I heard turned down was a request that w...

Re: Filing Direct

You can get different routings out of the computers depending on what other traffic is going to be arriving on an airway. I am glad it is not my job to write or support that software. I don't blame the controllers at all. Considering that we cannot predict the route, I do blame the controllers when...

Re: Filing Direct

Well, I have always chosen Direct for years. However, on my recent trip from Boston to DC; the first controller in Boston said unable and to refile. He then proceeded to ignore the next two calls, and waited until I was in the next controller's airspace and said for me to contact them. Oh, and the r...

Re: Pending EASA AD Fuel Tank Connection Hoses

Dear friends of the wonderful DA42. Looks like another expensive AD for European registered planes coming up after the fuel injector AD. https://ad.easa.europa.eu/blob/EASA_PAD_19_135.pdf/PAD_19-135_1 Material is not an issue, but wings have to be dismounted. Did anybody of you hear or experienced ...

Re: G1000 and GIA63W WAAS Upgrade Issue (mid-2019 update)

IIRC in 2008 a few of the last new Thielert DA42 TDIs produced in Austria came with WAAS and GFC 700. Which is why the legacy G1000 software that supports this configuration already exists. (This may be how Colin got his DA42 TDI upgraded.) Yup, and why I pointed out in the thread I started that th...

Re: G1000 and GIA63W WAAS Upgrade Issue (mid-2019 update)

Actually, you're not quite right here. Upgrading legacy G1000 avionics to WAAS with retaining KAP140 or replacing it with GFC700 was possible at one point in the time but it seems that Diamond doesn't offer these options any more. So nobody can tell WAAS and GFC700 are the options which become avai...
