Re: Losing GPS on approach
Update: Diamond replaced both GPS antennas about 2 months ago and we haven't seen a single instance of the GPS dropping out since. Hopefully this has fixed the problem permanently. It's always hard to say when fixing an intermittent problem but this is by far the longest it has gone.

Re: Losing GPS on approach
Does it always happen in the same area? There are, for example, GPS anomalies that happen in the vicinity of KSMO — for years, I've lost ADS-B coverage due to a loss of GPS at around 1300 AGL, and even had full GPS loss during an approach (fortunately in visual conditions). The airport even had gon...

Re: Losing GPS on approach
Thank you Marlon and Mark,
These are super helpful for troubleshooting. It has been so intermittent that we can't get it to repeat on demand. These will give us some steps to try first. I will report back when we get to the bottom of it.

Re: Losing GPS on approach
Interesting, KEMT tower is 121.2. That is where we usually experience it.

Losing GPS on approach
Has anyone experienced a loss of GPS in a DA62? I have been flying in a newly delivered plane and we have lost GPS several times while on approach (with approach loaded and activated). It always happens at around 2500 feet and clears itself up in about 40-70 seconds. We have just started to try to t...

They might have had better luck with the gear up.

Re: Speed Penalty for Removing Wheel Pants
I think a good compromise it remove the nose wheel pant only. It seems to cost about 3 knots. But for that you get much less corking and an one easier to inspect wheel.

Re: Headroom in a DA40 NG
In a newer DA40NG, you have the advantage of standard reclining front seats. Simply recline the seat a few degrees, and you should have plenty of headroom (as long as you're not 6' 4" or taller -- then you might need a DA62 ;) ). The seat backs are supposed to be in the full upright position f...

Re: Headroom in a DA40 NG
I'm 6' tall but I've noticed that with sheepskin seat covers installed I don't have enough headroom with my Bose A20 headphones on. Wish I had figured that out before I purchased them. Any thoughts? Am I sitting up too vertical? Different headphones? I'm tall but not that tall. I may have some bran...

Re: Part 91 condition based maintenance in a DA42NG
One recommendation non-related to the questions you asked: be sure that the aircraft you buy has GFC700 autopilot. The aircraft I sell (sorry, maybe I am conflicted....) has KAP140 which I used on my around-the-world, 3 Atlantic crossings and more, and it does the job! I guess 99.9% of the time you...
