DA42 Power Settings
I'm a DA40 owner ASEL CFI-I who is beginning to work on getting my Commercial Multiengine add-on (CPL AMEL) in a rental DA42 NG (Austro engines) with the ultimate goal of getting an MEI rating. In teaching students to fly the DA40, I typically provide recommended power settings (manifold pressures) ...

Re: KAP Autopilot Trim Failure?
I realize this thread is about the KAP-140 autopilot, but my experience with the Garmin GFC-700 autopilot might be applicable. Was flying our DA40 IFR at 7000 feet over the mountains of Pennsylvania when the autopilot and electric trim failed. The PFD annunciated a "bus error." No big deal...

Re: WARNING: Beware of PilotPak subscriptions from Jeppesen
Have you tried just copying the terrain.odb file from one card to the other? Is it somehow keyed to a specific card? I know some databases are, but for some reason I thought the obstacle database wasn't. You may not be able to copy these files to another SDCard, but it is possible to copy many of t...

Re: Hot starts
After 3 years of DA40 ownership, we've finally figured out how to get the engine to consistently start when hot: 1. All 3 levers full forward. 2. Turn on the electric fuel pump for only 1 second (no more than that!), and then leave it off. 3. Bring mixture control back to idle cutoff 4. Set throttle...

Re: Trip Report on a DA42-VI Flown by an Owner
I think the reason there's been no North American announcement about availability of the DA42-VI is because the plane's not yet available in North American. As reported earlier, Diamond has a backlog of European orders until around May of next year. But more importantly, the folks in London, Ontario...

Re: DA42 - Diesel exhaust smell...
I can report the exact same problem. The DA42 on leaseback at our flight school is a 2006 model that was converted to a DA42 NG now with Austro engines. Right after takeoff the smell of JetA/diesel is quite strong. Apparently this problem has been reported by other students/renters/CFIs, but the sho...
