Re: Questions from ADS-B install procrastinator - TailBeacon?

Tailbeacon would be a challenge in a DA40. This is designed for planes with a tail-mounted white position light. And the Skybeacon is also incompatible with the wingtip mounted A600 (or its LED equivalent replacement options) Thanks for the response. Would Skybeacon be compatible if the "SkyLi...

Re: What tug to get?

Yesterday was one of those days where I needed the tug to get the plane out of the hangar. A nice little band of ice right across the front of the hangar door. (Now I'm using the Thundervolt I bought from Brock.) Trying to pull it out with just a tow-bar or, as I usually do, using the tug as a towba...

Re: How do I bleed the brakes

A couple of bucks from Ace:
Brake Vent Adapter.jpeg
Adapter on Reservoir.jpeg
Apparently the new design for this reservoir allows for unscrewing the top of the reservoir for filling. Mine is all welded and one must use the vent fitting for filling/bleeding.

Re: How do I bleed the brakes

I like the vacuum-based approach because I can use the same device for the plane and my bike, which use incompatible types of fluid. Plus with everything in suction, there is less likelihood of something popping loose. This device has a check valve so the air/fluid won't flow back into the system wh...

Re: “Expedite climb”

A useful exercise was to use FF, set it to street view and overlay each approach to the street map. Do this on 2 different devices and you can simultaneously see where each track lies. FF allows you to easily measure distance between 2 points. In this case, between BAUTZ and the East boundary of the...

Re: How do I bleed the brakes

@Rich I'm with you on using a vent cap with a hose attached, but you lost me after that regarding the way you do a one-man bleed, as I was dead in the water when I realized that I was alone and had to bleed mine. If I had realized how worn the pads were before they got to the point that they allowe...

Re: How do I bleed the brakes

I was going to fly Young Eagles this past Saturday, but when I got to my hangar I noted brake fluid dripping from the right brake. As set forth in one of my prior posts ("Two wrongs don't make a right... but three lefts do") https://www.diamondaviators.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=58...

Re: “Expedite climb”

If you're coming in from elsewhere and are not already familiar with nor ever been briefed on the weirdness of this approach, it's definitely risky. You'd better have visual contact with the runway a couple of nm before BAUTZ. It looks like this is is indeed Class G airspace, so technically 1 mile v...

Re: Elevator/Pitch Trim Stickiness

One other thing is that I found a bolt in the trim wheel hanging up on a piece of excess upholstery beneath the copilot seat. Xacto knife cured that.
