Re: New Ownership

Did not see this coming, but probably should have. Christian Dries told me the NA avgas market was dead and so for Diamond, it has been a self-fulfilling prophecy. Maybe the Chinese will pump some much needed money into product support, marketing and product upgrades/improvement. Hope the purchase w...

Re: Fuel pressure indicator

I don't think Garmin can release an update without the concurrence of the airframe manufacturer.

Re: Under Rated

Having just had my plane at the factory in Canada for a couple months getting a bunch of upgrades I have to say that I don't think they are orphaned. I saw a bunch of DA20's being worked on, and certainly some DA40's. And I wonder what that even means in the current aviation environment. Colin, I g...

Re: Under Rated

These are terrific aircraft overall. What is lacking is support from Diamond. I loved our DA40 and I still love our DA20. I sold my share in the 40 and will be selling the 20 soon. The 20 is an orphan and in some manner, so is the avgas 40. It was disappointing to me to hear attitude of the owner to...

Re: Fuel pressure indicator

It's been a while since we had our DA40, but maybe there is a setup menu for this, or the profiles that have already been setup differ in what they display on the engine pages. Or as previously mentioned, maybe you need a DA40 software/firmware update. The first two images are from the Garmin guide ...

Re: Fuel pressure indicator

I assume you have a G1000 equipped DA40. If so, you should have a fuel pressure indicator. It is the second indication below the tachometer indicator. Low fuel pressure could be an indication of impending mechanical fuel pump failure. It happened to us on our DA40 and we replaced the mechanical fuel...

Re: trim wheel creep

Check out Section 27-38 of the AMM http://support.diamond-air.at/fileadmin/uploads/files/after_sales_support/DA40-Serie/Airplane_Maintenance_Manual/Basic_Manual/60201-r7-DA40-AMM-complete.pdf There is a good description of the system, troubleshooting and maintenance. There are several adjustments th...

Re: Decal Removal

We removed all of the decals from our 20 using only one wheel. I would caution you about too high an RPM on whatever motorized device you use. One of the advantages of the Dynabrade (and similar) air tools is the ability to generate reasonable torque at fairly low RPM. This kept the heat generated b...

Re: Decal Removal

Several years ago, I tried all sorts of different methods to remove the old decals from our 1996 DA20. Most were painfully slow and some caused some surface damage. I finally reached out to Diamond Canada for assistance. Here was their response: There is no one good way to remove decals. Generally s...

Re: Burning Excessive Oil

We have owned 2 Lycoming powered DA40's and flew hundreds of hours on both. Neither of them would maintain oil levels above 5 quarts - even the second one with an air-oil separator. We would put the required 6 quarts in for IFR flight, go fly for 45 minutes - or 4 hours - did not matter. The oil lev...
