Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
You are undoubtedly correct on this. I would just mention that the delays precede the Boeing / FAA issues by a number of years. Parenthetically, I have the sense that national regulators everywhere are losing trust in their peers. A CE mark in healthcare does not get you past having to pass regulato...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
Chris, you're also missing the STC cost, i.e. the development, documentation (operation & installation) & certification costs divided by the number of participating owners. URBE's €10K STC charge (for their much simpler GIA63-63W WAAS upgrade) is probably the most the market would bear. The...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
I'm not a regulatory guru, but what is stopping some Garmin-savvy avionics shop from just upgrading a legacy G1000 DA40XLS to G1000 NXi via a 337? Basically, a "G1000 upgrade" - to a configuration that is already being sold by Diamond. The justification would be that new NXi features prov...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
I hope that your DA-62 comes with the latest commercially available systems, especially if these products have been approved by the world's most sophisticated regulators (e.g. FAA, EASA). Given Diamond's role as an airframe provider -- essentially, an integrator of their products and third-party pro...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
It would be one thing if they were discrete avionics, but these systems are integrated into the airframe. While the DA-40-180's G1000 installation is, at least, an STC, the rest are TC's. It never occurred to me that a 1970 C-172 would be more upgradeable than a modern airplane ... especially after ...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
This thread may be disintegrating a bit, so I will just say that their products are great planes to fly, but maybe a little bit anxious to own over the long-term. The discussion in pricing above helps a bit as I think we can also see that purchase price is rapidly increasing, perhaps offsetting the ...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
TL:DR - Diamond is making progress, just not nearly fast enough. Transport Canada is one problem; owner & used plane economics is another. How much greener is that grass over there? Another explanation might be that Transport Canada considers that Garmin's SW development certification process t...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
Russ - This is perhaps the most cogent explanation I've seen about the software / avionics software issues with Diamond. Thank you for the reply -- and I agree with everything you have written except for one thing: their behavior has been the same whether they have a full order book, an empty one, o...

Re: G1000 NXi Phase III
None of this is to suggest that Legacy G1000 DA40-180 aircraft produced between 2004-2017 can be upgraded to NXi. While this is technically possible because a certified NXi implementation exists for new Lycoming DA40s, the cost for such an extensive hardware upgrade (including GFC700 autopilots for...

Re: G1000 Legacy & NXI Software Upgrades Announcement
I posted the same question on the new thread. There is nothing that I see on Garmin's technical updates.
