Re: DA42 Down in Ohio

Reminds me of an interesting practice in twin engine ETOPS airliners. Usually, two separate master mechanics finalize and button up each engine after maintenance separately to minimize the chance of the same mistake happening twice

But they look so good (and probably work so much better than stock brakes).

Presumably flight in low AOA regimes would produce less drag from the wheel well opening. Fly fast!

Re: DA42 Down in Ohio

I thought that the operator already talked about turbo hoses coming loose or something similar. That's terrible luck/bad form if both sides weren't tight. I've had an engine rollback from a bad new wastegate (rendering it naturally aspirated). Wondering if that could be the case. Easy to see from E...

Re: Interior Cabin Noise

My casual science experiment results, admittedly using only a phone app (Decibel X set to "Z" weighting): our DA42VI averaged 101 dB doing 153 KIAS, 2070 rpm, 85% power, props not perfectly sync'd. Wish we had prop sync. Min and max dB over a 1 minute test was 93 dB and 105 dB, respectivel...

Please report back once you get the plane, Curt. Think it's safe to say many of us are curious to see how it actually does in the wild.

Keep a little hex wrench in the cockpit so you can snug up a sagging visor

Shop price for parts and labor was around $1100 for this a couple years ago. We do them ourselves now.

Re: DA62 Mx Intervals

Dave and John, I'm contemplating flying all the way to the east coast just to have mx work done at your shops. I haven't had an annual done for less than $17k on our 42-VI and the worst has been 40k. Last one came out at a smooth $32k because one of the two props showed delamination and needed an OH...

Re: Fuel injector SB (Austro MSB-E4-025)

Didn't have luck with my own A&P or the shop installing our injectors. We have the Austro ECU dongle to input injector codes, and for the sake of science, I wish we did a ground run to see if the engine would run fine on them. The injectors are highly sophisticated pieces of equipment--I'm prett...
