Re: The 1,000 Pound 1,000 Mile Challenge

Poking around for slightly more capability than the DA42-VI, I cannot help but marvel at the specs of the DA62. Using cruise data only (disregarding takeoff and descent), a hypothetical DA62 with book useful load of 1,565 on a standard day at FL180 cruising at 162 KTAS could haul 1,017 lbs payload ...

Re: Just Discovered GTN 750

"The big icing?" as in FIKI? Nobody will shoot you here for liking the Malibu! Great aircraft if you're not too tall. After many hours flying G 1000 followed by 4 years with the avionics combo you describe plus Garmin Pilot, I think the same as you. So much so that I would even advocate ta...

Re: Airspeed Difference

Yes Rich, what you say makes sense. I had the following experience with my aircraft which has 2 x dual static ports (total 4), with a cross tie. Some bug got this and produced some rather horrible slime. The first instrument to show distress was the analog "round" backup altimeter which st...

Re: Airspeed Difference

Mike you can start by looking at the pitot static assembly under the left wing.
There could be a bug nest there. static port is on back side.

Re: can you increase speed to 210 KIAS for the next 2 minutes?

Heyyy Tommy nice to see you again here. I tried to PM you. I wanted to connect you to a new friend who almost bought an Extra 400 and then backed off and went for ... an Aerostar 700P. I flew with him and was very impressed. Since then he has criss-crossed Europe and then taken his plane across the ...

Re: Hangar Fire !!!

Hmm, thanks Rich. I'll also do some tidying up. I have a battery minder and a couple of chargers on the hangar floor... And this place definitely gets flooded when rain and heavy winds come from the door side.

can you increase speed to 210 KIAS for the next 2 minutes?

Another fun story from the LSGG Geneva arrivals library! The other day we were incoming from the west at FL 230 to take advantage of a nice tail wind. The Extra 400's cabin altitude is 7'000 ft at this level and I normally prefer it lower due to my strange oxygen saturation issue (I need oxygen from...

Re: Heat Wave Thunderstorm

Colin sorry for late reply. This is definitely not the case. I do it every time it makes sense. Especially french ATC are very friendly - unless they confronted with a thick accent, in which case they tend to scale down service to a very formalistic level. I have a new Thunderstorm story to tell. Se...

Re: You Know You're a Diamond Pilot When ...

Thanks Emir, and Colin for bringing real world data into this The prices I slapped on the "gold" items were just there as placeholders ! Given the respectable size of the customer base I suppose DAI will do their financial homework and add some "goodwill value" into the equation ...
