Re: Maintaining proficiency in these times

I highly recommend getting out there for a spin, if you can. I found it really comforting over the weekend to go flying and hear how *normal* everything sounded, talking to controllers. Plus, 5-10k feet is a healthy amount of distance to put between yourself and anyone else. It's lucky to be able to...

Re: Fuel Flow Rate Conundrum

Thanks for the reply and picture! That definitely provides some context. I had a feeling the labor was excessive, so that’s good to know for any future maintenance needs.

Re: Fuel Flow Rate Conundrum

For posterity's sake, in case anyone searches this thread in the future with a similar problem, it was a bad transducer to blame. Everything's ship shape now. As a data point, the part cost was $466.29. I got charged a brutal 6.75 hours of labor for the change. Not sure if it's genuinely that diffic...

Fuel Flow Rate Conundrum

I've had an issue develop recently on my DA40 - beginning at full throttle during takeoff, the fuel flow rate number as shown on my G1000 MFD spikes and varies significantly, from ~19GPH up to the mid-40s. Fuel pressure is nominal like normal, and the fuel totalizer, tank gauges and actual fuel burn...

Re: Bahamas PIREP

Thanks for sharing! Now that you’ve done the trip and seen how little time you spent truly out of reach of land, do you think you’d rent the raft again or feel comfortable making the trip with good vests?

Re: DA40 Wheel Pant

Ended up costing $615 total to repair ($75 in parts + 5 hours of labor) and it turned out really marvelous. I'm going to keep them both off and in safe keeping for now, but I'm pleased with the repair work and didn't die of sticker shock for the repair.

Re: DA40 Wheel Pant

The last four years of my DA40 I did not have on the wheel pants. It was so much easier and I didn't care about the three knots. That's the data point I was looking for! I figured it was just a couple knots' difference, and that holds up based on my flights since taking the rear ones off. I should ...

Re: DA40 Wheel Pant

Yeah, I took it down to Southeast Aero and they should have it ready by tomorrow or Wednesday for a few hours' worth of work. Not too terrible. Honestly got pretty lucky with where the rope caught it.

DA40 Wheel Pant

I knew something was bad when I felt a light yank under the right side while beginning to taxi out of my spot at home base KCRG today. While I still don't know how the coiled rope near my right main gear managed to get picked up, I saw that it had wound its way up the wheel pant, got stuck next to t...
