Re: Longest leg
BTW What surrival gear do you carry going over lake michigan? I just added lifejackets and am think of a small raft so I feel more comfortable going over open water. I am concerned that with out a raft even life jackets might not be enough due to the cold water of Lake Michigan. I always carry two ...

Longest leg
I am certain that several of you can put my little effort in the shade, but I flew a single leg from Waukesha Wisconsin (KUES) near Milwaukee, over Lake Michigan, back to Roanoke Virginia (ROA) today. It flight planned at 512nm (590 sm) and according to Flightaware, I flew 529nm in 3h 50m. My own lo...

Re: Safety
These statistics are just averages. If you're current, IFR qualified, flying a DA40 which is properly maintained (or a -42) and have easily enough gas for the mission, you're up there in the very safe indeed zone. Which isn't to say that you can let your guard down.

Re: Do I Need The GFC700?
I never noticed my KAP porpoising until flying at higher (>10K) altitudes. On the climb, it porpoises a bit, enough to be uncomfortable. When climbing out over the Sierra Nevada mountains last week, the last 2-3000 feet of climb to 17.5 was hand flown. When straight and level, it doesn't porpoise at...

Re: East Coast Trip
I did complete my quest and my jacket hangs proudly in my avatar to the left of this message. It took me a couple of years though. It was an amazing experience to see almost every part of the great Commonwealth from above and met quite a few interesting characters along the way. The day I finished w...

Re: East Coast Trip
There are several of us on this forum who live close by HSP and we can share your wonder at the beauty of the Allegheny Mountains in the Fall especially. HSP is a bit intimidating and feels like you're landing on a very large aircraft carrier. At least it's a long runway. If landing on mountains is ...

Re: 24V cockpit power outlet Gotcha!
Has anyone found a power cord that supplies power reliably to an iPad from the 28V outlet. I must have bought about 10 over the years and none worked for long, if at all. Maybe I need to convert to 14V?

Livermore California to Roanoke Virginia
On Friday, Rick and I flew N395JP back from the San Francisco Bay Area (Livermore-LVK to be exact) to Roanoke, Virginia. We started late (Rick had just arrived from Roanoke and I'd come from Rhode Island) so didn't wheels up until 3pm Friday. We arrived Roanoke about 29 hours later after a hotel nig...
