Re: The Decline and Eventual Demise of Small GA?

There's at least one upcoming development that has the potential to impact the demise of GA: As drones proliferate, imagine overgrown electric "quadcopters" or similar devices that can fly human passengers short distances, perhaps operating autonomously or with very simple to operate autop...

Re: NXi and Flightstream 510

I can confirm that the Garmin FlightStream 510 does not work on the DA62 with NXi. After taking delivery of my new aircraft I tried it, and since I know how to load and configure G1000 software, I even played around with the DA62 G1000 NXi Software Loader Card to see if I could reconfigure the panel...

Re: Counting instrument approaches

To maintain instrument currency (by flying practice approaches "under the hood" in VMC), It helps to be married to a safety pilot. :) Are you proposing? My safety pilot I married more than 30 years ago has her Instrument Multiengine Commercial license -- making it really convenien...

Re: Recent Factory Visit

Perhaps the factory floor space is much more valuable to Diamond for building $1.2m DA-62's vs $200k DA-20's. Sounds to me like good business planing. All DA62 production has shifted to Diamond Canada, which will soon possess the Type Certificates for both the DA62 and DA40. They have a healthy bac...

Re: DA42 rental

Closest one for rental I know of is at TakeFlight Aviation flight school at Orange County Airport, NY (KMGJ, near Stewart-Newburgh). They have an Austro-powered DA42 NG that I've flown.

Re: Gust lock

DA62GustLock.pdf FYI: The DA62 has a different gust lock that, while attached to the rudder pedals and center stick, also has a separate strap to fit around the rails of the movable pedals. I'm still trying to figure out how to get all the straps to be the right lengths, and where (how high) to att...

Re: Landing katama in a 40

Last month we delivered a 2013 DA40 XLT to a customer who lives on Nantucket. After delivery, one of our pilots and the new owner landed the DA40 at nearby Katama. I was told that the grass runway was quite rough, and they were surprised that the DA40's wheel pants were not damaged. Bottom line: Lan...

No under Part 91 (unless I missed something after reviewing Austro/DIamond documents).
