NXi and Flightstream 510
Has anyone with a relatively new plane fitted with the NXi been able to use a Flightstream 510 wireless SD card as part of the set up?
I am informed that Diamond is still going through the process of certification of this, but it seems strange this would be the case as it is certified in other platforms. Or is Diamond just really slow at doing this stuff? (Surface watch, visual approaches, etc.)
Thanks
David

Re: NXi and Flightstream 510
I can confirm that the Garmin FlightStream 510 does not work on the DA62 with NXi. After taking delivery of my new aircraft I tried it, and since I know how to load and configure G1000 software, I even played around with the DA62 G1000 NXi Software Loader Card to see if I could reconfigure the panel to make it work -- the FlightStream 510 software functionality is missing completely.
The good news is that with the imminent transfer of the DA62 and DA40 Type Certificates from Austria to Canada, Diamond Canada will be in a position to work with Garmin to request the "missing" NXi software functionality that (for whatever reason) Austria did not include.
Diamond Austria still controls the DA42-VI, so you (David) are dependent on them for NXi functionality. However in my experience as a DA42-VI owner during the past 4 years, Austria did a really good job of keeping up with the latest G1000 new features from Garmin, offering in new DA42-VI software releases the same functionality and updates available in new Cirrus, Cessna, etc. aircraft.

Re: NXi and Flightstream 510
Picked up my 42 today in Sydney and flew down to Melbourne. Great flight. Gee the NXi is quick! Going to enjoy playing with it over the weekend and apparently Diamond will get surface watch, visual approach and flight stream all certified in the next 6 months. Or so the salesman told me...
Anyway Dave just wanted to say thanks for the really helpful reply.
Cheers

I am looking forward to the Flight Stream 510 certification to use in the DA62 that I fly.

Re: NXi and Flightstream 510
In 5 November 2018, I received the following reply from Diamond Aircraft Canada:
We understand the demand for the FS510 for our customers and we are diligently working on a solution. A very rough estimate would be the end of second quarter of 2019.
Let us hope there is no further delay.

Re: NXi and Flightstream 510
Use of a FlightStream 510 card and everything else is dependent on a G1000 NXi software update (what I've heard referred to unofficially by Diamond as "Phase II" NXi software).
First we were told summer of 2018.
Then when I was at Oshkosh we were told fall of 2018
Then we were told year-end 2018
Now you're being told 2nd quarter of 2019
Our 2017 DA62 with NXi will be out of warranty by then, 2 years after taking delivery.
- When we bought our plane we paid extra for the GTX345R transponder to get ADS-B IN, and still can't have it. New NXi DA62s continue to be delivered with just the ADS-B OUT-only GTX335R. New NXi DA40 NGs can have the GTX345R, new NXi DA42-VIs can have it, and even DA62s with legacy G1000 can have it, but NXi DA62s can't have a GTX345R without new software. So I'm forced to fly my $1.4M aircraft with a Stratus box on top of the glare shield in order to get ADS-B IN traffic and weather, displayed on my iPad instead of my panel.
- We've had a FlightStream 510 card sitting in its box for over a year that we can't use.
- We're still missing many of the NXi features that Garmin advertised and provided early in 2017 for aircraft other than Diamonds, including Visual Approaches, SurfaceWatch, Connext, etc.

Re: NXi and Flightstream 510
My new DA 62.115 is scheduled to be delivered from Austria in February 2019, which includes the added option of the Garmin GTX 345R ADS-B In/Out transponder.
I will keep you updated.

Re: NXi and Flightstream 510
That’s very kind of you Colin.
You are absolutely right, I cannot wait to take delivery in February. I undertook a great deal of research prior to ordering and, in my opinion, this is the most technologically advanced and safest MEP in the world today. It is also a dream to fly, is so aerodynamically responsive and has very quiet engines with unbelievably low JET-A1 fuel consumption.
With many reputable airlines taking the DA42 for training, I believe Diamond Aircraft are making major inroads into the MEP market.
Thanks again.
