N473DS at KCDW
Is that a Diamond Aviator member? I'm curious about KCDW's parking options...

Re: N473DS at KCDW
Hi Colin. I’m not 473DS but I’m at cdw.
Options are $273pm outside on the ramp with no electricity, about $760pm for a small hangar that wouldn’t fit the 42, and $910pm or so for large hangar. No hangars are even available.
And if you want to put it inside the shared heated hangar to ride out a storm for a night, expect $100/night or so.
I’m probably a little off on the numbers but that’s the ballpark.

Re: N473DS at KCDW
Brian,
Who do you pay for the tie-down? Is that Essex county, or are you dealing with AirBound? (I think they are now charging $45 a night for parking, so for months that I'm going to be there more than a week it would be worth paying for a month...)
And you haven't bumped into N473DS? Seems almost like a sibling plane...
Thanks.

Re: N473DS at KCDW
473DS is a diamond share plane. I’ve met a few of the share pilots, not sure who owns it.
You pay Essex County and they manage the tie downs. I think I have your email, I’ll forward you the contact there. Essex county staff are all very nice and helpful.

Just remember that you pay property tax on any tie-downs ... and may have a fight on the personal use tax, too. NJ isn't pretty as I recall...

Re: N473DS at KCDW
Luckily NJ use tax is only if you live in NJ, own a hangar in NJ, or primary course of business is in NJ (if I recall corrrctly).
Therefore if you park your plane in NJ at a rented spot, work in another state like NY, and don’t live in NJ then you’re all good!
Otherwise it’s a steep one time tax bill of like 8pct of aircraft value. Altho it’s only due on aircraft sold by brokers... very quirky and potentially expensive rule. Definitely worth having a tax expert confirm.
