$500? Ha! a mere trifle
Our home garage door has a broken spring in the counterbalance thingee. I called a local outfit today that deals with these things and the guy says it's an obsolete model and parts aren't available (I've basically confirmed this), so he needs to replace it with a different one. He says it's more expensive than you would think and would probably run $500. I chuckled to myself and didn't say: "You obviously don't know you're talking to an airplane owner."
