Nav data update for G1000 simulator
I know I have seen a reference on here about using the current nav data with the G1000 computer desktop simulator. Unfortunately, my searches for it have failed. Does anyone know how to use the Jeppesen/Garmin nav data to update the simulator software?

Wally,
Assuming you have the V12.00 G1000 simulator, it's really easy. There is a folder under the root simulator folder called "winfs_mount". In that folder, you simply replace the file called "avtn_db.bin" with the version that comes from Jeppesen when you do your monthly update. When you run the simulator next time, it will do the same "verifying the database" thing your DA40 does after the update, and then you will have the current nav db. You can verify the date on the MFD boot screen.
In this same folder, you will also find the other files from your G1000 data cards. You can replace the sim files with the files from your SD cards if you want. You will see the database dates reflected on the MFD boot screen when you restart the sim.
With the older versions of the sim, it is more difficult. The nav db was contained inside of a disk image file, and you had to use a tool like WinImage to replace the .bin file inside of the disk image...

I do have an older version but I also do not see the avtn_db.bin file that you refer to in the Jeppesen update. I have a folder named ldr_sys but I don't see any files in that folder even though I have selected hidden files to be seen. Where is that bin file?

Re: Nav data update for G1000 simulator
The Jepp update puts 2 files on the SD card - "feat_unlk.dat" in the root, and "avtn_db.bin" in a folder called ldr_sys. Both files are marked as read-only hidden system files, so you need to be sure you are displaying both hidden and system files in Windows.Wall-e wrote:I do have an older version but I also do not see the avtn_db.bin file that you refer to in the Jeppesen update. Thanks Rick. I had failed to enable viewing of the system files. Now I need to find the V12.0 software.

Did all that. avtn_db.bin in the winfs_mount directory. But when I start DA4ß G1000 Trainer 12.0 it does NOT update any databse files.

Re: Nav data update for G1000 simulator
I'm not sure what's going on with your system. I just ran my Sim and the Nav DB was 23-JUL-2015. Then I shut it down, replaced my avtn_db.bin file with an older version and restarted the Sim. It went through the "Navigation DB will be Verified before use" delay, and then the Nav DB said 5-FEB-2015. Then I swapped the files back, the process repeated, and I'm back to 23-JUL.gsontheimer wrote:Did all that. avtn_db.bin in the winfs_mount directory. I am using the Start_Dual_Screen.bat file to run my Sim, which brings up both screens (PFD & MFD). I'm not sure if this makes any difference or not.

Re: Nav data update for G1000 simulator
when I replace this file it starts up normally with the same old database. I have never seen a "Navigation DB will be verified before use" screen.
And I use the Start_Dual_Screen.bat as well.
Puzzled.

Windows 7 Pro. I am puzzled as well. I don't have a clue what is going on...gsontheimer wrote:What O/S do you use? I use Windows 7 Ultimate.
