Nick, is yours the speed gear? Also I need to correct the highlighted text, above. The OSB is for different nose strut fairing, to go with the alternative nose strut.Roxi5m9 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 1:08 pmHaha. For sure. Just excited and hopeful. Bret sent me a fin for a trial run on my 2004 and it was quite a bit different in curvature of the fairing and mounting screw placement. I would have offered up my fairing for drafting but I have a partner in the plane and we fly a lot and didn’t want to go without it for several long cross countries. So I’ve been hoping he found an available one located close to him. But I will say what he has so far is a solid design and looks sharp.

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
Got to get a check of rudder trim and a stable airspeed assessment today. Not a bump in the air to be found, as I was flying early. Rudder trim set neutral (as recommended) plane flies with the ball centered and feet on the floor with the following conditions:
Wt: ~ 2040 lb.
CG: 96 in.
RPM: 2450
MAP (full throttle): 23.2
DA: 8000 ft.
TAS: 147 Kn.
POH number for this DA: 134 Kn.
Plus that annoying tendency for the A/P to fly with the left wing low is gone.
Now the tough stuff. Annual next month. Talked to my mechanic. He'd prefer it not be there when he does the annual, but otherwise he "knows nothing". So there's that.

@Rich
Thanks for the pirep. That looks simple enough that I might be able to 3D print that. Great, I love new projects.
BTW - couldn't help notice your vent naca. If you tape off the bottom half you will have much less noise and more air.

Rich. Nice. How easy was it to adjust the rudder trim?

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
Pretty easy. I just pressed my right hand against the part of the tab where it's bolted to the rudder and pressed my left hand against the trailing side, removing that slight bend that was there, eyeballing the outcome to where there is no discernible bend at all. The technique puts no stress on the rudder itself while straightening. I probably should confirm with a straight edge, but it works now, so I'll stifle myself...

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
I concur with Brock that the air vent noise (esp the high frequency screech) is cut to less than half with the glider tape solution. Here's a quasi-scientific study I did:

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
Rich Thanks for the test. Your results are the same as my aircraft. As I have said before I designed and built the fin two years ago and it has performed great, especially on the long cross country trips.
Noisy Vents DA40
Nice to put some numbers on it. Similar results to what I posted in a blog on the subject in 2013:waynemcc999 wrote:I concur with Brock that the air vent noise (esp the high frequency screech) is cut to less than half with the glider tape solution. Re: Corked Nose Wheel
I couldn't try to duplicate your 5000 ft. numbers as that would have been like 10 ft. AGL this morning

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
Actually, if your plane has the corked NLG issue, it will not slow down at all but rather go a tad faster WITHOUT a nose gear fairing on!Roxi5m9 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 1:08 pm I would have offered up my fairing for drafting but I have a partner in the plane and we fly a lot and didn’t want to go without it for several long cross countries.
