New OSB40-079 for Fuel Tank Vent Protection

Post by Rick »

I just received a notification from Diamond about a new OSB. The SB reads:
Installation provisions for a safety mesh to prevent small insects from entering the fuel tank
vent holes while the airplane is parked on ground.
The instructions simply say:
Drill a hole in the fuel vent cover system, install a camloc and retaining nut i.a.w. drawing.
and then some drawing numbers are listed. Approximately 2 hours work, they say.

Any idea what this is? What are they trying to protect, that needs a new hole for a camloc? I'm confused...

I think there have been a few instances of insects causing blockages of the fuel vent holes under each wing. This SB installs a screen over the vent holes to address that.
