The 40NG is different from other Diamonds in that connecting a 28V ground power source does NOT automatically turn on the G1000, even though you hear a click from the external power relay. Because you also have to turn the key to ON/Electric Master to run the avionics, this means that the plane's main battery is then connected to the ground power unit, and hence you'll charge the battery.

In contrast, the DA62, DA42, and Lycoming DA40 will all have their G1000 power up as soon as ground power is applied to he aircraft. They also don't charge the main battery from ground power unless the Electric Master red switch is also turned on.

Thanks for the comments folks.

A quick update:

I had purchased this EPU (25A) from Aero-Pac Belgium for 729 EUR (incl. shipping and VAT) a week or so ago.

I specifically mentioned the model of the aircraft and that External Power Voltage required was 28VDC. Also sent them below screenshot:

Yesterday, I measured the output from the EPU with a multimeter and it read 24.0 V.
I contacted the supplier. They replied saying that I could return the unit and they would supply a new one (buyer pays for shipping both ways). They also said the output voltage could be adjusted via a tiny screw on the front side of the device.

I figured this would exactly be what the supplier would be doing if I return the unit, so decided to give it a try. Turned it up all the way until max setting and read 27.4 VDC on the output socket with a multimeter. Still not 28 VDC though.

I won’t be able to test it out anytime soon on the airplane but as soon as I do, I’ll post an update here… ;)

When the EPU is connected to the DA40NG, my engine panel reads 28.7v.

I checked Aero-Pac's website and noticed there are two models, a 12V (24V) unit and a 24V (28V) unit. The PDF data sheet suggests that there is a model that is optionally switchable for use among 12V, 14V, and 24V systems. It might be worth checking with them for an exchange for the 28V model or the one that is user-selectable.
