SYT unlock
Any members with da40/da42 ever retrofitted the SYT option after the plane leaves factory? I know the price is around 10K

Re: SYT unlock
I did, shortly after buying my (used) 2007 in 2012. For $10k, you get an SD card to unlock the SVT, and a 'free' set of updates for your obstacle and terrain databases. The "installation" takes maybe 5 minutes, if that. Seems kind of outrageous, but I would hate to fly without it now.

Re: SYT unlock
does it require a form 337 or logbook entry only? I already have the 9 arc second for my current terrain database so I assume no terrain datebase is required?

Re: SYT unlock
My shop just made a logbook entry, no 337. I think Garmin may send you all the latest databases anyhow, whether you need them or not. At least, that was how it worked back in 2012 - although things may be different now.

Re: SYT unlock
I asked because I am able to get the unlock card for 5700 without the latest database which is significant less than what it normally is. so I just wanted to see what the process is.

Re: SYT unlock
Ahhhh, nice! If you already have the 9-arc-sec db, then the unlock card should be all you need, I think. Once you insert the card and boot your G1000, it will tie the SD card to your G1000 system id and become unusable for anything else. But you must then keep it safe, because you will need it if/when you ever do a software update for the G1000, to re-enable the SVT again, and as far as I know there is no way to replace it.

Re: SYT unlock
You might find this link helpful- the activation instructions for SVT in the DA40.
Also, here is the letter of authorization for Diamond to use the STC for SVT.
I don't see either the letter or the STC in my logbook, but that might just be an oversight. I guess I could always grab a copy if needed...

Re: SYT unlock
I assume those 2 docs is all I need besides the SD card? What does your logbook entry says? did you do it at a garmin shop or normal AP?

Re: SYT unlock
It seems like there may be some "SVT Users Guide"-type document you are supposed to keep in the plane, but I can't say for sure. I may be thinking of some other upgrade. My logbook entry says:
AIRFRAME LOG
Activated Garmin G1000 synthetic vision and pathways in accordance with Garmin Service Bulletin No. 0814, Revision A. Installed new SD supplemental data cards, P/N 010-00330-43.
At the time, I had this installed at a Diamond-authorized repair shop, which was also Garmin certified, too - because that's where I was having my maintenance done back then. I don't know if that is "required" or not.
